Job Title: Rail Car Attendant


Job Summary


The Rail Car Attendant is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient unloading of rail cars containing plastic resin used in blown film manufacturing. This role ensures resin is properly transferred from incoming rail cars into designated silos, maintaining material integrity, inventory accuracy, and compliance with all safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities



  • Receive and prepare inbound rail cars containing plastic resin for unloading
  • Verify resin grade, quantity, and documentation prior to unloading
  • Safely connect hoses and pumping equipment to rail cars and silos
  • Pump resin from rail cars into the correct designated silos according to production requirements
  • Monitor transfer process to prevent cross-contamination, overfilling, spills, or equipment damage
  • Perform required inspections of rail cars, hoses, valves, blowers, and related equipment
  • Accurately complete unloading logs, inventory records, and required paperwork
  • Coordinate with production, quality, and scheduling teams to ensure timely material availability
  • Maintain cleanliness of unloading areas, tracks, and surrounding work zones
  • Follow all plant safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and environmental regulations
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to alarms, spills, or equipment malfunctions
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and report maintenance issues as needed
  • Assist with general materials handling duties as required


  • When not performing rail car unloading or pumping duties, assist with staging, organizing, and preparing scrap and reprocessed (repro) material for shipment in accordance with plant procedures and safety requirements



Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, labels, and material documentation
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety



Experience



  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, bulk material handling, or chemical/resin unloading preferred



Work Environment



  • Comfortable working outdoors around rail cars and in varying weather conditions


Physical Demands



  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed
  • Ability to work in dusty environments and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
