If you are passionate about science and technology, love working on materials engineering problems, and enjoy reading literature, patents, and advancing product development, this role is for you. As a Materials Scientist you will play a key role in developing and qualifying aerospace sealants and potting compounds, with a strong emphasis on new product development based on emerging technologies. You will report to the Technical Manager, New Product Development in the Aerospace Sealants department and is located in our Aerospace Materials Science & Technology Center, Burbank, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Expertise: Conduct 60-70% hands-on work focusing on materials engineering and formulation development, literature reviews, intellectual property assessment, and customer engagement to qualify products.

  • New Product Development: Work on cutting-edge sealants and potting compounds, ensuring successful formulation and product development.

  • Commercialization: Apply experience in taking products from concept to commercialization, overcoming the challenges of new formulation development and securing specifications for market success.

  • Innovation & Implementation: Develop and implement new technologies, ensuring that they translate into successful commercial products.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with various departments to ensure the successful scale-up, qualification, and commercialization of new materials and product line extensions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Educational Background: Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Materials Chemistry, or Materials Engineering.

  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of scientific principles, materials engineering and formulations, including structure-function relationships in the context of material performance.

  • Passion for Science: Thrives in a technical role, enjoys reading papers and patents, and is driven by scientific exploration.

  • Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Desirable

  • Technical Experience: 3+ years in materials engineering / formulation development within the space of sealants, adhesives, coatings, composites, or polymeric materials.

  • Market Experience: Experience taking products from development to market with a strong understanding of the commercialization process.

The base salary range for this position is $115,000 to $130,000.
