The purpose of this position is to provide opportunities for recreational activity to the citizens of the City while ensuring the safety of citizens and staff in and around the aquatic facility. This is accomplished by supervising staff, determining staffing levels, assigning personnel to duty stations, observing pool attendance, ensuring proper coverage throughout the facility and, interacting and providing customer service to patrons within the facility. Other duties may include maintaining swimming pools and equipment, managing swimming pool chemicals, managing financial controls, assisting with locker room and bathroom maintenance and interfacing with other City employees. This position provides direction to other employees.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Oversees seasonal facility operations during a designated period of time by addressing and resolving complaints and concerns from the public, responding to emergencies when required, preparing facilities for programs, rentals and parties and ensuring the cleanliness of facilities. Works varied shifts including opening, closing and weekend hours as assigned.
  • Ensures the safety of customers at Ford Pool by visually scanning and performing thorough walkthroughs of the entire aquatic facility. This includes but is not limited to the inspection of all play features, pump rooms, and bathrooms.
  • Supervises personnel by assisting in training, observing and monitoring work tasks, evaluating work performance, assisting employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Oversees day to day lifeguard operations by assigning lifeguards to a designated location, calculating work and down time for each lifeguard, ensuring that lifeguards remain alert and vigilant while on stand, responding to employee concerns and inquiries and providing assistance when appropriate or requested.
  • Oversees day to day guest service operations and financial controls, including setting up tills at the beginning of the day, performing cash counts throughout the day and closing out cash drawers at the end of the night.
  • Provides customer service support by helping customers, responding to customer inquiries, addressing customer concerns or problems and educating customers on facility rules and procedures.
  • Ensures that the facility is up to standard as it pertains to cleanliness as well as ensureing the swimming pool equipment is operating correctly. Offers support by disinfecting bathrooms with appropriate cleaners, sweeping and mopping floors, picking up debris from patron areas, gathering lost items.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Formal Education / Knowledge
Work requires knowledge necessary to under basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four (4) years of high school or equivalency.

Experience
Two (2) years experience functioning as a lead over staff or two years supervisory experience. Preference for lead/supervisory experience in an aquatics or recreation center environment.

Certifications and Other Requirements

  • American Red Cross CPR/First Responder within 30 days from hire
  • Certified Pool Operator license preferred
Overall Physical Strength Demands
Medium - Exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Reading
Basic - Ability to recognize meaning of common two- or three-syllable words. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Receives general directions. The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. The employee may choose the appropriate procedure or policy. Performance is reviewed periodically.
