As the Senior AnalystControl Systems Engineering , you'll be a vital part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team supporting Duke Utility & Engineering Services (DUES), which includes the operating units providing the full range of utility & engineering services to the Duke Campus and Medical Center: Chilled Water, Steam, Electric Systems, Water (including water, sewer, and stormwater), Energy Management and Engineering. The Energy Management (EM) unit is responsible for energy-efficient facility and central plants operations and promotes energy conservation practices throughout the University. The EM Automation Systems group is responsible for maintenance and operation of the DDC and SCADA systems. DUES is within the Facilities Management Department (FMD). This position reports to the Automation Systems Manager.

What You'll Do:

Support the University Control Systems including: facility control systems, central plant control systems, third-party systems, and SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) systems. Responsibilities include overall system design, performance monitoring, reliability implementation, evaluating network infrastructure, coordination with Duke's office of internet technology (OIT), programming, project design and execution, procedure development, training, problem solving, cost estimating, and system documentation. Their goal is to ensure a smooth operation of all utility control and monitoring systems in order to provide maximum performance, consistency, and reliability of the systems.

Qualifications:


  • B.S. degree (ME, EE, or equivalent) and 5 years' experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience skills preferred.
  • Associate degree (HVAC, Electronics, or equivalent) and 8 years' experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience skills.


Typical Duties



  • Participate in the design, planning, evaluation, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of University automation / control systems.
  • Operate and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and direct digital control (DDC) devices that support district energy and other facility automation systems.
  • Monitor facility systems to ensure efficient operation. Manage connections between software and hardware systems in order to ensure reliable and consistent data flow.
  • Team with other engineering disciplines and commissioning agents to ensure projects and systems are operating within the required guidelines.
  • Assist in the continued development of University standards to provide guidelines for future project planning, design, construction and maintenance.
  • Develop and execute control system training programs for relevant staff.
  • Work with FMD Engineering staff, Vendors, FMD Trades and/or central control room on control system improvements.
  • Update control logic and control source code when necessary.
  • Work with information technology (IT) professionals to maintain hardware-to-software connectivity and security.
  • Advise and assist with problems involving controls systems and facility operations.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Working knowledge of supervisory controls and SCADA systems
  • Proficiency with Siemens Apogee controls and programming a plus
  • Proficiency with Iconics controls and programming a plus
  • Working knowledge or DDC/SCADA graphics development and database integration
  • Experience in the controls and instrumentation for multi-use facilities central plant systems
  • Proficient in Windows client/server and Windows PC environments
  • Ability to analyze existing controls systems with applicable monitoring equipment to troubleshoot and resolve problems
  • Ability to create and maintain positive customer and stakeholder relationships
  • Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of BlueBeam or equivalent markup and collaboration program a plus

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $65,769.00 to USD $104,595.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
