Position Overview




Primary Purpose of Position
The Property Security Supervisor works as a Patrol Sergeant who manages and directs employees in general security patrol work.

Knowledge of staff availability, skills and resources to designate assignments.

Establishes employee work expectations, reviews reports and assesses squad performance based on standards.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the Police & Public Safety department is to support the University's core mission of teaching, research, and public service by providing comprehensive and professional public safety services as well as secure, convenient access to the NC A&T campus. The department protects and serves the University community by enforcing the laws of North Carolina, preserving and optimizing resources and by maintaining an environment that fosters education and community-orientated service.
Work Hours Sunday through Saturday nights, 12 hour shifts, 40 hours a week. Positions may require shift, weekend, and/or overtime work.
Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site)

Required Competency Technical Knowledge
Duties

  • Displays in-depth knowledge and trains others in protective, security, and enforcement practices.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of property security and enforcement procedures, sufficient to determine when expectations or changes are required.
  • Applies expert knowledge of the policies, rules, and regulations applicable to the property being guarded, sufficient to make decisions in unique or unprecedented situations.
  • Develops policies, rules and regulations applicable to the property being guarded.
  • Ensures unit operations and policies support organizational goals



Required Competency Communication
Duties

  • Communicates regarding issues that require significant judgment or interpretation, negotiating and resolving conflicts with the public, university officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Makes presentations to groups
  • Writes policies and procedures, training materials, and operations reports for the security/enforcement program.
  • Develops forms and formats for records/reports used by Officers.



Required Competency Security, Patrol, & Enforcement
Duties

  • Manages a security or enforcement program
  • Assesses priorities and risks and ensures adequate coverage
  • Develops and provides adequate training on security, patrol, and enforcement procedures.
  • Assist the University Police Department in Community Oriented Policing in the Residence Halls.
  • Assist at University events by collaborating with event staff and law enforcement to coordinate security efforts and resolve any issues that arise.

  • Analyzes situations that have broad impact or set precedent to make sound security and enforcement decisions.
  • Manages unit response to critical incidents.



Required Competency Planning and Organizing
Duties

  • Manages resources and personnel in order to provide effective security/enforcement.
  • Applies knowledge of staff availability, skills and resources, along with security/enforcement priorities, to make patrol assignments.
  • Meet with security counterparts and address security concerns in implementing contractual requirements.
  • Prepare weekly reports and memorandums to the Security Manager on property damage, safety hazards, theft, and vandalism.
  • Promote positive employee relations through meeting and developing a rapport with all internal & external University affiliates, addressing complaints, and resolving issues with Security Manager's guidance.
  • Conduct security-related training sessions for employees regarding physical security topics to expand their awareness of security standards, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct on-site physical security surveys/security risk assessment surveys at various residence halls, or as assigned, to make recommendations and ensure ongoing consistency with security standards (technology, procedures, lighting, CPTED, etc.).

Duties

  • Manages the work of a security or enforcement unit comprised of Property Security Officers and/or support staff.
  • Makes recruitment and selection decisions, adhering to State and departmental recruitment and selection procedures.
