Job Summary


The Staff Attorney supports the organization by providing legal guidance and transactional support across multiple business functions. This role is responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts and related business documents while providing legal insight to support operational and strategic decision-making.


Working closely with the Senior Counsel and General Counsel, the Staff Attorney assists business leaders in managing legal risk while balancing commercial objectives. The position requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts, bid proposal terms, and other business-related agreements.
  • Provide legal guidance and decision support to management, Human Resources, and the sales organization on contractual and business matters.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support business initiatives and legal strategy.
  • Assist in identifying and mitigating legal risks associated with commercial transactions and operational activities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure contracts and agreements align with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support legal initiatives related to employment matters, regulatory compliance, and other areas of corporate law as needed.
  • Assist the Senior Counsel and General Counsel with special projects, legal research, and other duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Strong understanding of commercial contract review, drafting, and negotiation.
  • Ability to provide practical legal advice that balances legal risk with business objectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across the organization.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive legal matters.



Education and Experience



  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
  • 2-5 years of commercial transactional legal experience as a licensed attorney.
  • Interest in or familiarity with the oil and gas, fuels, lubricants, or industrial services industries preferred.
  • Ability to pass all applicable background screening requirements.
  • Candidates with less than three years of relevant work experience as a practicing transactional attorney must have graduated in the top half of their law school class.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Prior in-house legal experience.
  • Experience supporting companies in the oil and gas industry or related sectors such as fuels, lubricants, transportation/logistics, or environmental health and safety.
  • Experience reviewing contracts related to commercial sales, supply agreements, logistics, or service agreements.


Work Schedule


Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. A 9/80 work schedule may be available, subject to approval. Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required based on business needs.
