Description and Requirements

We are seeking a motivated Thermal Engineer Intern for the summer to support server thermal and power testing. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of computer/server hardware and an interest in thermal, power, and airflow analysis. This role offers hands-on experience working with enterprise server systems in a lab environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Test Node & Environment Setup

  • Set up power and network connections for server nodes
  • Install and configure operating systems and firmware on server platforms
  • Verify test environments using remote connections and troubleshoot issues as they arise

Thermal, Power & Airflow Testing

  • Execute firmware and workload (FWT) tests based on project requirements
  • Collect, review, and analyze test logs and results
  • Document findings and prepare formal performance and thermal reports
  • Track issues, validate fixes, and perform follow-up testing as needed

Debug & Hardware Support

  • Disassemble and reassemble server systems as required
  • Replace hardware components and verify proper system functionality after installation

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of server and computer system hardware, including CPU, NVMe, DIMM, and NIC components
  • Familiarity with system firmware such as BIOS, BMC, and UEFI
  • Understanding of server power consumption, thermal behavior, and cooling concepts
  • Comfortable working hands-on with hardware, including setup and teardown of systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a server lab or data center environment
  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow structured test procedures
