Job Responsibilities:

We are presently seeking an Electrician C for an opening in Albany. In addition to a starting wage of $52.26 per hour, we offer excellent benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, 401(k) plan, vacation, tuition assistance and more.

Under general supervision, work with, and train a group to install, construct, inspect, test, operate, and maintain all equipment and facilities in electric substations, switching substations, generating substations, and other electric delivery equipment and facilities found on the transmission, distribution, or underground systems (including underground network - Western Division only). This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • All corrective, preventative, predictive, and trouble maintenance
  • Perform directed switching per attachment A
  • Perform any equipment operations
  • Perform all testing functions per attachment A
  • Operate and analyze results for all test equipment as required
  • Assist in the development and training of personnel
  • Work alone or in a crew depending on the task and complexity.

Job Qualifications:

  • A two-year degree or certificate in Electrical Technology, Mechanic Technology or Electric Construction/Maintenance from an accredited college or university or equivalent as determined by management is preferred
  • Must have 5 years experience in Electrical construction and/or maintenance.
  • Subject to the Memorandum of Agreement Regarding Residency.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient computer and technology abilities.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of Company equipment, standards and practices applicable to this type of work, and have a working knowledge of fundamental theory relating thereto.
  • Ability to read and thoroughly understand complicated electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams and construction prints.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous work including work at elevated heights and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment such as aerial lifts, boom trucks, fork trucks, and articulating lifts, backhoes, and other equipment associated with construction and maintenance.
  • Must possess a NYS CDL Class A (restricted) or higher, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Must possess OSHA crane certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Must possess other licenses required for the position.
  • Must pass physical abilities examination.
  • Must pass validated aptitude test.
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid drivers license with a safe driving history that meets National Grids Safe Driver Policy

Salary:

  • $52.26/Hr

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.

Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
