POSITION SPECIFICS

The Penn State University Police and Public Safety Department is responsible for protecting and serving more than 100,000 students, employees as well as visitors at 22 campuses located throughout Pennsylvania.We have a non-sworn, armed, opportunity within the Department of Defense cleared facilities responsible for carrying out the functions of protection of sensitive materials and property, employee safety, preliminary security investigative work and other related duties at the University's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) facilities. We are searching for an evening/night shift Security Supervisor to join our team.

The Assistant Security Supervisor assists with coordinating the day-to-day operations, scheduling and administration regarding safety and security to include trust with maintaining strict governed Department of Defense (DoD) protocols in direct support of all the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) Facilities.This position will help in the supervision of the Armed Public Safety Officers (APSO) employees and report directly to the Senior Security Supervisor.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with providing effective leadership, counseling, and direction to the reporting APSO team.
  • Coordinate assigned staff, including scheduling, delegating duties and responsibilities, training, employee relations, and performance evaluations.
  • Administer training plans for the unit. Ensuring weapons and range qualifications, Act 235 certification and recertifications, annual certification requirements, required trainings per UPPS department, university, as well as Department of Defense security clearance requirements.
  • Assist with reviewing video Surveillance systems and alarm, access controls and work closely ARL Security Manager to assure systems are operating as intended.
  • Perform the duties of an APSO, only as needed
  • Work as a liaison between ARL Security, Federal Agencies, and University Police and Public Safety

  • Capability to always uphold an excellent standard of conduct, abiding by laws, regulations and policies.

This position requires:

  • Successful University Police and Public Safety Background Investigation
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Fingerprint background check
  • Sponsorship with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Completion of all Act 235 requirements
  • Successful Department of Defense Background investigation.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Associate Degree 4+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Due to the financial and fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $74,000.00.
