Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), this Laboratory/Technical Assistant carries out complex research protocols and techniques to further the research of the Pare Laboratory in the Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience (
CMBN).
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Performs patch clamp experiments in vitro, immunohistochemistry, and histological analysis of brain tissue.
- Maintains and manages laboratory, including maintain equipment, ordering supplies, and cleaning and organizing the lab.
- Assists other lab members with their projects as needed.
This position is 100% grant funded. |

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.

| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Requires a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience and relevant rodent and/or wet lab research experience.
- Also requires prior experience working in a research laboratory setting with rodents. Must be organized, responsible, detail oriented, and able to work individually and as a team.
- Must comply with all University policies and regulations, including, but not limited to health and safety, and waste management, and complete all relevant laboratory safety training. Must keep detailed notes about experiments.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in a behavioral neuroscience setting, or specific experience working with electrophysiological techniques, in vivo or in vitro electrophysiology, is preferred.

| Equipment Utilized |
- Requires use of equipment for animal behavioral and physiological experiments (both in vivo and in vitro), email, web browsers, software (such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat), and data analysis software (GraphPad Prism, MATLAB).
- Knows or will learn any and all equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.

| Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Fast paced laboratory environment. Able to comfortably lift and move 30 pounds.
- This position involves prolonged standing, walking, and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment.
- Must demonstrate manual dexterity. Some stooping, reaching, climbing, and bending required.
