Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Executive Director of Finance within the Finance Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

The Executive Director of Finance is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of all financial aspects of the Rutgers Cancer Institute, a matrix organization with complex funding sources including patient services, federal and state grants, contractual income with external business partners for clinical care, and a partner and affiliate network.

The Executive Director of Finance has responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial activities of the Cancer Center with independent financial reporting to Chief Financial & Administrative Officer and Deputy Director for Administration & Planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Directs and oversees all aspects of finance and accounting for RCI, an independent institute within the University, aligning financial management with the strategic objectives of the Center and the University.
  • Strategic financial planning for Rutgers-wide initiatives.
  • Creates and presents detailed reports on financial performance, strategy, philanthropy, etc to Cancer Center leadership.
  • Ensures credibility of institutional financial and provides timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
  • Evaluates and advises on the financial impact of strategic planning and new business and program development for the institute.
  • Designs, implements, and oversees a variety of financial business models with external partners.
  • Oversees process for financial planning, budget development, and consolidation of financial reports for the cancer center.
  • Provides recommendations to the Cancer Center to strategically enhance financial performance and leverage business opportunities.
  • Oversees hiring, development and appropriate allocation of all Finance Department staff members to ensure day-to-day financial operations and strategic initiatives are achieved.
  • Designs and implements internal controls to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State and Local regulatory laws.
  • Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Masters' Degree in Business, Finance, or Health Care Administration or a relevant field is required.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressively more responsible experience in a finance management role required.
  • An additional five (5) years of experience in a senior leadership role required.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior fiscal management experience with complex funding sources inclusive of patient services, Federal and State grants, contractual income for clinical care and affiliate network agreements is required.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills and the ability to function in a team environment is required.
  • Effective oral and communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a complex academic health center strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment is preferred.
