Investigations, White Collar, and Compliance Associate
Steptoe LLP seeks an associate with 3-5 years of experience to join our innovative Investigations, White Collar, and Compliance practice group, based in our San Francisco office. The associate will be part of a collaborative, specialized team within the practice group that works at the intersection of technology and legal investigations.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience handling investigations and compliance matters for international clients in both civil and criminal contexts, and expertise in the use and applications of AI and data analytics to facilitate investigations and solve legal problems. Familiarity with the principles of AI governance and experience working with artificial intelligence in a legal environment is a plus.
Preferred qualifications include: familiarity with risk management programs; an interest or background in AI/Data Science; experience using AI in work settings (including managing AI-assisted review/TAR discovery); and/or an MBA or advanced technical degree. As our practice operates globally, language skills in Mandarin, Spanish, French, or Portuguese are particularly valuable.
Candidates must have excellent academic credentials, strong interpersonal and communication skills, a track record of insightful research and analysis, and persuasive writing abilities. We seek individuals who can see the big picture while executing details. We view technology as a driver of legal change and risk management and seek someone eager to help us engage with these changes to better serve our clients.
We seek candidates who are ready to assume immediate responsibility and who will work as an integral part of a high-performing, collaborative team in a fast-paced environment. We also value self-starters and people who are comfortable experimenting and learning from setbacks.
A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required. Admission to the California bar, active and in good standing, is also required.

We also offer the opportunity to enter the ground floor of working with a team at the forefront of AI and White-Collar crime. The anticipated salary range is $260,000-$365,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, including but not limited to relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held.
