SCARF/TORCH OPERATOR

Kress is looking for a full time Scarf/Torch Operator to join our team in the development of specialized industrial equipment for steel, construction, and mining industries.

The Scarf/Torch Operator is responsible for using hand torches and scarfing consideration techniques to remove surface defects, excess material, or weld irregularities from heavy equipment components. This role supports quality standards and safe production practices in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities -

  • Operate hand torches to scarf, grind, and remove surface imperfections from metal components
  • Perform surface preparation to meet welding, machining, or finishing requirements
  • Interpret work instructions, blueprints, and quality specifications
  • Inspect parts visually to identify defects requiring scarfing or torching
  • Follow safety procedures related to torch operation, hot work, and PPE
  • Maintain clean and organized work area
  • Coordinate with welders, inspectors, and supervisors to ensure quality standards are met



Qualifications -

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years' experience using oxy-fuel or hand torch equipment in an industrial setting
  • Ability to work with carbon steel and other metals common in heavy equipment manufacturing
  • Knowledge of safety practices related to hot work and torch operation
  • Ability to read basic blueprints and work instructions
  • Physical ability to work in a hot, industrial environment
