Job Summary

This role coordinates and expedites procurement activities for repair locations. The position ensures timely ordering, inventory accuracy, pricing compliance, and resolution of vendor and invoicing issues while maintaining adherence to Company policies and AAR standards. The role partners with Corporate Procurement, Repair Management, and Plant Material Managers to monitor inventory performance, follow up on open purchase orders, maintain accurate system data, and support efficient, cost-effective operations.

Job Duties

  • Work closely with Repair Supervisors and Material Managers at the locations to keep abreast of issues that may occur and assist in their resolution with respect to parts and inventory
  • Timely ordering of materials and services in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures
  • Assist in rollouts and ongoing implementation of Company Policies, Procedures and Programs for inventory control, procurement, data management and reporting
  • Obtain quotations for new and existing parts and services, as required
  • Timely follow-up on open purchase orders; including back orders
  • Provide daily Open PO and material status updates to Location Management
  • Monitor material pricing, inventory quantity and transactions for errors and take corrective action as issues are identified
  • Understand and monitor inventory accuracy measurements and take corrective action as issues are identified
  • Maintain part numbers and perform system data entry
  • Confer with vendors and Account Payable personnel to resolve materials and vendor invoicing issues, such as damage, quality issues, and incorrect pricing, parts and quality
  • Other duties, responsibilities and projects as requested or required

Preferred Experience

* Experience supporting maintenance, manufacturing, or industrial operations
* Experience with railcar components, repair materials, or MRO procurement
* Familiarity with AAR standards and rail industry parts specifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 3 years purchasing experience
  • Minimum 2 years of materials/inventory experience
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations in oral and written form
  • Knowledge of purchasing and inventory control
  • Proficient in personnel computer software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Knowledge of and skill in using office equipment including copiers, telephones, fax machines, calculators and filing systems
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion
  • Ability to make independent judgments within scope of responsibility
