Job Summary

Supporting both the Finno Lab and the Center for Equine Health, incumbent provides regulatory oversight in support of principal investigators and other research support personnel. This position applies acquired high-level knowledge of clinical research and regulatory activities, job skills, policies and procedures to complete projects and reviews.

They will be adept at problem-solving with respect to data integrity and source documentation. They may manage and help develop strategies, policies, processes and resources, and function with a high level of autonomy in partnership with the supervisor and PIs. The incumbent works independently with minimal oversight to manage regulatory submissions, document oversight, and conflicts of interest requirements, applying strong working knowledge of clinical research regulations and standards.

Communicates with researchers and provides guidance on how to resolve issues of concern and meet requirements of external regulatory bodies. This position requires an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory into practice. They will have an in-depth understanding of the professional research field and will prioritize employee safety and animal welfare.

This position will include training junior clinical research coordinators and/or other support personnel. They will have knowledge of how to properly document these actions in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Work is performed independently and with consultative direction of the Principal Investigator and Research Team

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or a combination of experience, education and/or training required.
  • Experience in independently organizing tasks and set priorities for work assignments to achieve timely progress on multiple tasks simultaneously, to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Experience writing, implementing and ensuring compliance of protocols for a large research vivarium.
  • Knowledge of scientific disciplines of DNA sequencing, RNA sequencing and molecular biology
  • Ability to use analytical and problem-solving skills for the identification and resolution of unique and unforeseen problems in a logical, timely, and often creative manner while maintaining the integrity of study protocols and legalities defined by the University, departmental and study policies and procedures.
  • Oral and written communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from clients, veterinary staff and a wide variety of health care professionals with varying levels of ability to understand.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mouse handling experience and experience weaning and genotyping transgenic mouse colonies.
  • Horse handling experience
  • Ability to serve as a role model; demonstrate a customer-service orientation and hold self-accountable for achieving service excellence.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with faculty, community-based healthcare professionals, staff and research participants.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member in a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to maintain a composed demeanor when interacting with all stakeholders, including those who are ill, angry, confused, or emotionally distressed.
  • Can work independently and be self-directed, meeting the scope of the program and with the frequent changes in priorities and deadlines.

Department Overview

The Department of Population Health and Reproduction is an interdisciplinary department, comprised of faculty with expertise in a variety of academic and clinical fields whose common focus is on the population as the unit of scientific interest. The Department's focus is on teaching and research programs dedicated to improving a safe and economical food supply from animal origins; the gathering and dissemination of information that can lead to enhanced animal and human health and enhanced animal production; and the management of natural resources for animal and public good. The faculty promote the development of scientists who are sensitive to the interactions of individuals with populations and of populations with their environment. Basic instruction and research will occur in the sciences of microbial populations, reproductive biology, analytical epidemiology, pathobiology, and domestic animal genetics. In addition, the faculty also provide applied research and instruction in these areas, and in the areas of production animal health/medicine, clinical veterinary epidemiology, veterinary reproductive health, veterinary public health and food safety, and information science for veterinarians.
