The Facility Maintenance Technician II is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation of facility systems and equipment. This role works independently and as part of a team to address maintenance needs and troubleshoot issues on building systems and equipment.
  • Takes ownership and resolves maintenance requests, including troubleshooting, diagnosing, ordering replacement parts, and repairing mechanical and electrical issues. Records and tracks in Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system.

  • Completes preventative maintenance as directed.

  • Conducts repairs and makes adjustments to equipment and to facility infrastructure as needed, including doors, locks, windows, and flooring.

  • Performs a variety of light plumbing, painting, electrical and carpentry functions.

  • Routinely checks heating and air conditioning equipment to ensure they are functioning properly.

  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, and inspections.

  • Assists with facility personnel office moves, workstation setups, and helps with the setup and teardown for events and special meetings.

  • Performs routine inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with safety and other regulatory requirements.

  • May operate company vehicles between buildings to move supplies.

  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.

  • Complies with all safety regulations and maintains a neat, clean and orderly work area.

  • Rotational on call availability for afterhoursand weekend maintenance and facility security.

  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.

  • Monitors and ensures environment maintains proper temperature and humidity range per United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations.

  • Coordinates third party service repairs as needed.

  • Become familiar with the equipment program in order to support equipment owners in scheduling service and maintaining proper documentation to ensure compliance.

  • Ability to quickly adapt to a changing environment

  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with staff and management and with outside customers/vendors.

  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools including, but not limited to, power drills and drivers, reciprocating saw, power sanders and grinders, and other common tools used in the construction and maintenance trade.

  • Ladders, boom lifts, scissor lift, fork truck and other powered maintenance equipment.

  • Light bulbs (fluorescent, incandescent, LED and halogen)

  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and electrical materials including PVC, galvanized metal, insulated and non-insulated electrical wire, PVC cement, drywall joint compound and other necessary solvents and chemicals.

  • Generators, air compressors, water filtration systems and hazardous waste equipment.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and move heavy equipment in a safe manner
  • Ability to stand and move (e.g. walk, bend, reach, lift, crouch, push, pull, lift.) throughout an entire work shift. Standing for prolonged periods of time - up to 8 hours or more per day
  • Dexterity(e.g. feeling, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion) to operate necessary equipment and perform essential tasks outlined in position description
  • Required to have close visual acuity (e.g. preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small parts) and depth perception (with or without glasses/contacts)
  • Work area may have fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
  • Noise level is usually moderate however occasional exposure to increased decibel level (not greater than 120 dB) is possible.
  • Required utilization of provided personal protection equipment (PPE)
  • Environmental conditions when working with animals may include working under dirty, dusty or wet conditions.
  • This position will frequently be involved with radiant/electrical energy, solvents, grease, oil, irritants, acids, bases, and other hazardous chemicals, electro-mechanical hazards, flammable materials and bio-hazards.
  • Exposure to plumbing and HVAC sources that may include buildup of dust, gases or particulates.
  • Exposure to solder, chemical fumes and airborne particles.
  • Exposure to fiberglass, drywall dust, sawdust, and metal or wood filings.
  • Occasional exposure to potential hazards such as hot water, steam, mechanical equipment, biological substances, loud noise, odors, chemicals, and to range of outdoor weather conditions.

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
