METROLOGY SPECIALIST

The Metrology Specialist will perform calibration, compensation, and repair of electronic, physical, dimensional, mechanical, thermodynamic, and/or chemical measurement devices for SpaceX's world-class measurement applications and facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Follow procedures to perform routine and complex tasks related to the calibration, compensation, repair, and maintenance of electronic, physical, dimensional, mechanical, thermodynamic, and/or chemical IMTE
  • Use measurement reference standards and calibration systems to verify conformance of measurement devices with associated accuracy requirements
  • Assure compliance of SpaceX Metrology to SpaceX quality management system, AS9100, and ISO9001 requirements
  • Assist Metrology Engineering in assessing, modifying, and implementing Metrology processes and applications
  • Support measurement device end users and owners regarding device use and measurement best practices
  • Serve as measurement device subject matter expert for supported measurement fields
  • Obtain vendor quotations for device calibrations, as well as handle device shipment, receipt, and calibration documentation
  • Perform regular customer engagement with calibrated device owners at assigned site, and use customer feedback to modify and improve support model as appropriate


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ years of experience using calibrated measurement devices such as load cells, pressure transducers/gauges, flow meters/controllers, data acquisition modules, dimensional measurement hand tools, digital multimeters, power supplies, and/or torque tools


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • 3+ years of professional and/or academic experience in metrology
  • Experience using, calibrating, compensating, and/or repairing high accuracy, high precision measurement equipment
  • Training in defense, aerospace, energy, and/or medical settings
  • Experience with quantitative and verbal reasoning
  • Experience with verbal and written communication
  • Experience with AC/DC low frequency IMTE calibration, compensation, and repair
  • Experience with Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) and/or Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE)
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025, AS9100, and ISO9001
  • Familiarity with Calibration Management and Metrology Information Systems (MIS), specifically IndySoft and Toolbox Information Manager (TIM)American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Calibration Technician (CCT)
  • Experience with and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience working independently and without direct supervision
  • Experience balancing, prioritizing, and providing timely execution of multiple assigned tasks and projects to meet mission needs


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Ability to work the following shift:

    • Monday - Friday 6:00am - 4:30pm


  • Ability to work nights & weekends when needed to meet critical launch milestones
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25 lbs.) unassisted
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand
  • Ability to work at elevated heights (up to 100 feet)
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Travel to other sites may be required, up to 15% of the time
