Your Role at Cabot:

Cabot Corporation is seeking a Welder Fitter to join the Burner Shop team at the Billerica, MA Technology Center location.

This role will be working on industrial burners and other large equipment, supporting both Manufacturing and R&D projects as a technical/mechanical resource for welding, fitting, inspecting, and assembly of mechanical components, parts, complete industrial-type combustion burners or other mechanical equipment.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Inspects incoming parts received from vendors to ensure components meet critical fabrication tolerances and outgoing parts completed by Cabot.

  • Reads and follows drawings and specifications to fit up and weld assemblies and subassemblies as designed, following proper safety guidelines.

This is an ideal role for someone who is of a detailed and safety mindset who is looking to further develop their welding and fitting techniques to build onto their career.

This role is fully onsite with a flexible work schedule.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Works from sketches, diagrams, drawings, and verbal instructions to fabricate components into finished parts. Performs welding operations on a variety of structures and metal components.

  • Understands welding procedures and the sequence of assembly to ensure minimal distortion and maximize quality. May use various welding techniques such as gas-metal arc (stick, MIG, TIG), semi-robotic, brazing, and/or soldering to join metals. May periodically perform related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, and template or fixture making.

  • Works with a safety "first" mentality and approach to all activities.

  • Periodically inspects incoming parts from commercial and specialty vendors to ensure quality product and facilitate assembly. Has the skills to measure and gauge components against print specifications and report results.

  • Reviews and inspects outgoing parts before shipment.

  • Performs routine maintenance of welding equipment.

  • Assists planner/shipper as needed. (crating, forklift, etc.)

  • Potential ability to obtain appropriate or commensurate certification (as needed). Within a reasonable time.

  • Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements. Keeps work areas safe and clean.

  • Works with a safe, professional, business-like demeanor, representing Cabot's best interest. Periodic travel may be needed.

What You'll Bring to Cabot:

  • A HS diploma, GED or trade school diploma is required as a minimum.

  • Completion of related apprentice, journeyman, master training, or certification is highly preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience as a welder/fitter, preferably involved with stainless steels, high nickel alloys, and associated metals and materials.

  • Full knowledge of welding techniques and procedures, ensuring full penetration / watertight quality weld capabilities that could pass X-ray or any NDT.

  • Experience with high temperatures and specialty alloys.

  • Knowledge of equipment and related tools, including hand and power tools, measuring devices, welding positioners, overhead crane, plasma cutter, and torches.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and comment on mechanical drawings; perform required "shop" mathematics.

  • Familiarity with computers as a user. Organization and prioritization skills to adjust work schedule to accommodate unplanned needs.

  • The pay range for this role is from $70,400 - $96,800. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skill, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, all positions are eligible for health benefits on the first day of employment, 401K savings plans, vision, dental and annual bonus based on company performance.
