About the Role

Acting as a trusted advisor to partners and lawyers at all levels, the Practice Manager builds strong, individualized relationships, aligns staffing with business needs and career goals, and proactively identifies and addresses issues in a collaborative, high performing environment. The role also functions as a business focused chief of staff to the three practice groups, providing strategic support, issue spotting, and practical problem solving in close partnership with Practice Group Leaders, the Practice Management Director, and firm leadership.

Embedded within a nationally recognized, integrated regulatory, litigation, and enforcement practice, this highly visible position offers the opportunity to influence the growth and operations of an in demand regulatory practice. The role joins WilmerHale's well established Practice Management team-known for its deep engagement with firm leadership, strong relationships with practice groups, and practical, solution oriented approach.

What You Will Be Doing



  • Manage billable and pro bono work assignment and staffing for the Securities & Financial Services Department across assigned offices, coordinating with Practice Management to address cross office needs.
  • Align work assignments with attorney experience and professional development goals for counsel, senior associates, and associates.
  • Coordinate reassignment of matters during attorney absences and assist with administration of extended leave policies.
  • Oversee the bi annual evaluation process in partnership with Legal Personnel, practice leadership, partner mentors, and the Practice Management team.
  • Support onboarding and orientation for junior associates and lateral hires and collaborate on formal training programs with practice and professional development leaders.
  • Assist department and practice leadership in addressing attorney personnel matters as needed.
  • Support department and practice group strategic planning, reporting, and special projects, including preparation of productivity and management reports.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to department leadership, including planning and follow up for meetings, retreats, and firmwide initiatives.
  • Support marketing and business development efforts, including pitches, RFPs, CLEs, lateral partner integration, and department events.
  • Assist with financial and matter management activities, including tracking alternative fee arrangements and related reporting.




Required Skills


What You Will Bring to This Position



  • Experience supporting practice leadership with strategic planning, reporting, financial/matter management, and cross functional collaboration in a complex, fast paced environment.
  • Operational experience supporting attorney lifecycle processes, such as onboarding, identifying training needs and coordination, evaluations, work assignment and staffing.




Required Experience



  • Minimum five years' experience in professional services or legal environment preferred.


Education



  • Bachelor's Degree required
