Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) Rehabilitative Services focuses on preparing incarcerated individuals for successful reentry into the community by providing education, reentry planning, and structured rehabilitative programming. Rehabilitative Services operates across facilities and community programs to reduce recidivism and promote long term success by equipping individuals with the skills, resources, and support needed for reintegration.

Job Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

Under supervision, the Rehab Services intern will assist with routine service coordination, documentation, offender engagement, and basic program support tasks within facilities and community settings. Interns will be trained in the full process of preparing offenders to obtain a high school equivalency diploma, postsecondary credentials, or certificates, building foundational understanding of TDOC's educational programming. They will gain hands-on experience in reentry preparation, including assisting with individualized reentry plans, helping offenders secure essential documents, learning strategies for housing and employment support, and participating in facility-based resource fairs that connect offenders with community services. The intern will receive structured instruction in Day Reporting Center operations by shadowing staff, observing offender intake and counseling sessions, supporting group programming, connecting participants to community resources, and assisting with outreach or resource fairs, all aimed at understanding how DRCs facilitate rehabilitation and reduce recidivism

Minimum Qualifications:

Current enrollment in a bachelor's program in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a related human services field and being classified/enrolled as a Junior or greater. The internship must be for academic credit. Strong communication and active listening skills. Basic computer proficiency and comfort with electronic and paper documentation.
