Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and one year of full-time professional experience in social or human services, recruiting, marketing, or business development/management.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Additional full-time professional experience in a field as listed above may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants will be required to:
- Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority;
- Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority;
- Supply a fingerprint sample prescribed by the TBI based criminal history records check;
- Submit to a review of their status on the Department of Health's vulnerable persons registry.
- Possess and maintain reliable transportation.
Overview The Division of Rehabilitation Services, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Program, provides a variety of services to individuals with disabilities seeking employment as well as Tennessee businesses. For VR customers with disabilities, VR provides employment-focused rehabilitation services which may include counseling and guidance, training and education, placement, and/or more. For businesses, the VR Business Service Unit provides solution-focused services aimed at assisting businesses in their efforts to build a diverse workforce inclusive of individuals with disabilities through services such as disability awareness and inclusion training, recruitment of qualified talent, disability accommodation assistance, and retention services for employees that acquire a disability. Under the supervision of the VR Business Service Unit Director, the Business Employment Consultant (BEC) is responsible for professional vocational rehabilitation employment services. This position serves as a consultant to business and industry regarding services related to employment and to Vocational Rehabilitation staff, community rehabilitation programs, and educational systems. The consultant's goal is to increase customer knowledge of business needs and labor market trends, develop professional relationships with business and industry, foster collaboration and enhance local expertise for career guidance, and provides customers assistance in the acquisition of successful employment in the competitive and integrated labor market. Responsibilities
- Customizes a "dual customer" approach in building and maintaining partnerships with businesses using marketing principles to address specific issues, concerns, or needs connected to disability in the workplace, providing services to both businesses and customers. Conducts routine follow-up with employers to build and maintain sustainable relationships while helping to resolve any concerns or meet employer needs.
- Works collaboratively with staff and community-based partners to coordinate customer placement, minimize the overlap of services, and educate on employer needs and labor market trends. Develops job leads and facilitates the employment and retention of customers in competitive integrated employment.
- Organizes and/or attends community events, career fairs, and engagement activities to assist in obtaining customer referrals, effectively promote services, and network with potential employers.
- Develops and conducts disability awareness and sensitivity training with employers. Provides training to staff, partners, customers, and the public on disability awareness, etiquette, and accommodations assistance.
- Monitors and documents customer's progress throughout the employment process by maintaining communication with the customer and/or potential employer and providing assistance when necessary. Provides job-readiness, career counseling, and retention services to customers and/or employers to assist customers in retaining successful employment.
- Analyzes local employment and labor market information to assist in finding appropriate job opportunities for customers that align with their skills, abilities, and career goals.
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders to assess customer employment readiness. Reviews case records, interviews customers, and observes customer interactions to assess their skills and abilities.
