Official Title: Laboratory Sciences Professional (Open Rank)

Position #: 00811014 - Requisition #: 39231

Job Summary:

The Zhu Laboratory at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a highly motivated Research Services Professional to join a dynamic team focused on stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and diabetes research. Our lab investigates how human pluripotent stem cells differentiate into pancreatic -cells and applies cutting-edge tools-including CRISPR-based engineering, genomics, artificial intelligence-guided regulatory design, and functional metabolic assays-to develop next-generation cell therapies for type 1 diabetes.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to high-impact translational research. The selected candidate will perform molecular and cellular experiments, support stem cell differentiation workflows, and assist in developing and optimizing functional assays that evaluate -cell identity and performance. At the senior level, this role includes independent experimental planning, assay development, and active participation in data interpretation and research advancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic molecular biology techniques, including buffer preparation, sample collection, RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, real-time qPCR, cloning, bacterial culture, mini-prep, sequencing, sample submission, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, immunofluorescence staining, and fluorescence microscopy.

  • Maintain laboratory organization, including receiving and logging reagents/products, tracking inventory, autoclaving materials, managing biological waste, and general laboratory upkeep.

  • At the Senior level, perform mammalian cell culture, static and dynamic glucose-stimulated insulin secretion assays, luciferase/reporter assays, lentiviral production and transduction, and flow cytometry analysis after training.

  • Accurately document experiments, organize data, and communicate results to the PI and lab team.

  • Assist with laboratory protocols, SOP updates, and ordering supplies.

  • Comply with all institutional guidelines for biosafety, chemical safety, and research integrity.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Why Join Us:

Are you passionate about cutting-edge science and motivated to make a real-world impact on human health? Join the Zhu Lab at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, where we are pushing the boundaries of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine to develop transformative therapies for type 1 diabetes.

Our team investigates how human pluripotent stem cells become pancreatic -cells and engineers next-generation stem cell-derived islets with improved precision, stability, and therapeutic potential. We integrate molecular biology, genomics, CRISPR-based genome engineering, artificial intelligence-guided regulatory design, and functional metabolic assays to answer fundamental questions in development while accelerating translation toward clinical application. As part of our team, you will gain hands-on experience with advanced technologies in a high-impact, fast-paced research environment. You will contribute directly to projects aimed at improving -cell specification and developing innovative strategies for diabetes therapy. This role offers meaningful opportunities for technical growth, scientific development, and active participation in research with direct translational relevance.
