Your Role on the Team

Working under the direction of the Senior Assistant Dean and Senior Associate Dean, and in collaboration with academic and administrative leaders, the Director of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management serves in a key management role within the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing. This position serves as senior academic advisor for all academic programs and manages all student advising services, long-range planning, and enrollment management, including admissions, recruitment, retention, and student success. In collaboration with school leadership and faculty/staff directors of clinical and academic programs, the incumbent is responsible for establishing goals and policies to meet UC and UCI growth trends and targets, considering population demographics, legislative mandates, and UC systemwide requirements. The Director ensures compliance with California Board of Registered Nursing, UC systemwide, and UCI rules and regulations. Additionally, the incumbent oversees operations, financial, and human resources for the Student Affairs unit.

The Director designs, directs, and manages all aspects of undergraduate and graduate academic advising for the School of Nursing and formulates policies and procedures for the student academic advising program. Key responsibilities include analyzing and advising on academic programs and curricular changes; serving as primary leader for recruitment and retention planning; managing admissions and enrollment management goals, academic counseling, academic progress and conduct, policy development and enforcement, and student services; overseeing student engagement and programming such as orientation, career fairs, commencement, Latin Honors, pinning ceremonies; coordinating articulation and student verifications; degree/credential/enrollment auditing, and reporting; contributing support for accreditation and academic program reviews and assessments; partnering in strategic planning and resource allocation; coordinating scholarships, student aid funding, and academic student employment in collaboration with finance, advancement, and academic personnel staff; and overseeing a broad range of student initiatives, engagement, and success. The Director identifies and analyzes issues of significance to undergraduate and graduate education that have relevance to students, programs, faculty, and staff in the School of Nursing. This position supervises full-time staff and has direct or indirect oversight of peer advisors and student workers. This position requires a visible, student-facing presence with regular on-site availability Monday through Friday. The role is primarily in-person to support student engagement and accessibility needs.

  • Skills in project management and reporting/presenting across multiple delivery methods for a diverse array of audiences and audience sizes.
  • Ability in problem identification and reasoning.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuade others, and lead.
  • Demonstrated experience in advising and counseling students to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with sensitive and confidential student issues and proven ability to maintain the confidentiality of such information while enacting appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and contribute both as an individual and a team member to achieve the goals and deliverables of the school.
  • Proven ability to hire, train, evaluate, motivate, supervise, and manage the performance of professional and support staff.
  • Ability to work independently, using judgment and decision-making skills to conduct short- and long-range planning, to prioritize tasks, and to follow through with related activities and request for information in an environment with a high-volume diverse workload, of frequent interruptions, competing deadlines, changing priorities, and compelling requests.
  • Academic program experience (university)
  • Knowledge and ability to read transcripts, compute GPAs, and convert semester units to quarter units.
  • Professional experience with responsibility for enrollment management activities such as student recruitment and admissions
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 6-8 years of relevant professional experience in higher education administration and academic advising or related area

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of nursing and how nurses (RN/APRN) work in various healthcare and clinical settings.
  • Extensive knowledge of UCI academic programs, student support services, policies and procedures, general catalogue, Academic Senate rules and regulations, and FERPA compliance
  • Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Broad knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; and / or accounting and payroll.
