The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join its team.

This is a position-specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this MTA position or function only. All interested individuals will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this classification.

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for a Superintendent of Bus Maintenance. The Superintendent of Bus Maintenance will supervise the staff of the Bus Maintenance Division, including mechanics, maintenance technicians, and other subordinate employees. The Superintendent of Bus Maintenance will oversee the inspection and maintenance of equipment assigned to the Bus Maintenance Division/Support Shop Department and will implement new policies and procedures to support the activities and goals of the Bus Maintenance Division. The Superintendent of Bus Maintenance will monitor and follow up on work performance to determine the quality of work performed and to assure proper on-time completion. The Superintendent of Bus Maintenance will convene and/or attend staff meetings with management personnel and union employees and will counsel employees and administer disciplinary action as necessary.


Specific duties include but are not limited to:
  • Manage and oversee operation of Bus Maintenance Shop, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, with Assistant Superintendents, Supervisors, 30-80 Local 1300 employees, 1-2 Local 2 employees.
  • Review and complete/close work orders in Maximo
  • Ensures compliance with the provisions of the MTA union contract
  • Provide communication between maintenance departments and all other operating departments.
  • Maintain operational standards throughout the department for State and Federal Government auditing purposes.
  • Compile and maintain records for weekly status reporting to the manager and the Director of Bus Maintenance.
  • Daily review of scheduled Preventative Maintenance and repairs
  • Responding to emergencies
  • Assure compliance with MTA and Bus Maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain budgetary requirements
  • Conduct performance evaluations for supervisors.

The current vacancy is located at the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore, Maryland. (Bus Maintenance Shop)

The current work schedule varies on a 24-hour shift.


Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of experience in the repair, maintenance, and inspection of heavy-duty automotive vehicles and equipment. Two years of this experience must have involved the supervision of other mechanics, maintenance technicians or other subordinate employees working on heavy-duty automotive vehicles and equipment.

Notes:
1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four years of the required non-supervisory experience.


Licenses & Certifications

Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
