What Your Job Will Be Like

A pharmacist at Sandia National Laboratories is a healthcare professional dedicated to the safe and effective use of medications within a clinical environment. They play a crucial role in patient care by providing medication therapy management, counseling patients on the proper use of medications, and collaborating with healthcare providers to optimize therapeutic outcomes. Pharmacists at Sandia engage in interdisciplinary teams to support innovative healthcare solutions, ensuring that medication protocols align with cutting-edge research and clinical practices. They work in various settings, including health management, travel clinic, acute care, and occupational medicine contributing to enhancing patient safety and efficacy in medication use.

The pharmacists primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Dispense prescription medications and ensure accuracy in dosage and instructions.
  • Maintain Board of Pharmacy Licensures and coordinate auditing and inspections for clinic and EMS services.
  • Inventory pharmaceutical stock and coordinate appropriate removal of expired or recalled medications.
  • Provide medication counseling to patients, including potential side effects and interactions.
  • Review and interpret prescriptions to identify potential issues or contraindications.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Conduct medication therapy management and monitor patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients on health and wellness topics, including disease prevention and medication adherence.
  • Maintain accurate records of prescriptions and patient information.
  • Stay updated on new medications, therapies, and regulations affecting pharmacy practice.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to pharmacy operations.
  • Provide immunizations and health screenings as permitted by state regulations.
  • Provide support to multiple Sandia Sites to include California, Tonopah Test Range, and contracted Life Fire Range.
  • Travel to various sites including California and Nevada

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$117,500 - $199,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Doctorate plus 5 years experience working in a pharmacy
  • Current NM Pharmacy License
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support certification
  • Experience working effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Experience counseling patients about medications and health concerns
  • Experience with quality and compliance
  • Familiarity with state BOP regulations as well as California and Nevada

About Our Team

Center 03700 is Sandia's multi-disciplinary occupational health center that provides occupational medical services, acute care, and walk-in health care services to employees, prevention and wellness services, as well as behavioral health and EAP services to our employee population.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
