The base salary range for a Business Systems Analyst II is $65,000 to $110,000. The base salary range for a Sr. Business Systems Analyst is $82,000 to $140,000. Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company tenure & equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for a annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.

This is a multi-level position with increasing levels of responsibility and requirements for each level.

Business Systems Analyst II, Sr., and Lead Overview:

Performs systems analysis and provides support and guidance to end-users for company applications and administration systems. Acts as a liaison between internal business staff, IT technical teams and vendors to evaluate business needs and drive system solutions to support business strategies and objectives.

Business Systems Analyst II Essential Duties:



  • Follows an established requirements gathering process to identify requirements
  • Conducts thorough research and analysis to validate business needs, objectives and opportunities
  • Communicates requirements to the development teams through the use of specifications, statements of work, project plans, or other forms of documentation
  • Works closely with internal business staff, IT developers/architects/technical experts and system vendors to translate business requirements into IT-based solutions
  • Coordinates development work with system vendor and/or IT developers/architects/technical experts to ensure appropriate system configuration
  • Performs testing to ensure optimal system configuration and performance. Coordinates with developers, quality assurance teams, and users to test processes and ensure functionality and user acceptance.
  • Provides support and guidance to end-users on company application functionality and capabilities
  • Performs root cause analysis of issues, identifies and recommends workable solutions to application and systems problems
  • Works with system vendors and/or IT technical team as needed to escalate and resolve complex issues, deliver system enhancements and support the application
  • Coordinates project activities including requirements gathering, configurations, testing, training and go live support. Maintains project files and provides status updates.
  • Develops user documentation and training materials and may facilitate training on company applications and systems
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned


Sr. Business Systems Analyst Essential Duties:



  • Serves as the project lead for moderate to large profile projects that have system-wide impact. Performs project activities including requirements gathering, configurations, testing, training and go live support
  • Gathers, analyzes, documents, and validates the needs of business stakeholders
  • Provides functional requirement documents including inputs, processing steps and outputs to meet user needs to assist developers in successfully translating and achieving project goals
  • Creates training documents and maintains project files and updates.
  • Facilitates training on new systems and/or process implementations.
  • Helps with the analysis of workable solutions to application, web, and systems problems
  • Focuses on timely methods for achieving deliverables
  • Develops skills in multiple technical environments and grasp business processes
  • Works closely with moderate to complex support issues and performs as a subject matter expert (SME)
  • Works with vendors to resolve issues, deliver system enhancements and support the application
  • Serves as a technical expert on all aspects of data and application support
  • Cross-trains, serves as a mentor to, and may lead and direct the work of other Business Systems Analysts
  • Tracks escalated issues, performs root cause analysis, implements solutions, and supports large group initiatives
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • Serves as a team lead and cross trains and mentors all levels of Business Systems Analysts
  • Tracks escalated issues, performs root cause analysis, implements solutions, and supports large group initiatives
  • Lead or assists with the creation of project schedules and enforces of project deadlines
  • Serves as the team leader and mentor
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned


Business Systems II and Sr. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Strong knowledge of all business system analysis tools, processes, methodologies and standards for business requirements information gathering, analysis and documentation
  • Understanding of application design and system configuration
  • Understanding of project management methodologies
  • Basic understanding of SQL for extracting and analyzing data and troubleshooting issues
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as meeting facilitation skills
  • Ability to effectively convey complex and detailed technical information
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability to develop skills in multiple technical environments and grasp business processes
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with internal partners and vendors


Lead Business Systems Analyst Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Advanced knowledge of all business system analysis tools, processes, methodologies and standards for business requirements information gathering, analysis and documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as meeting facilitation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability to effectively convey complex and detailed technical information
  • Understanding of general system design and client server environments
  • Expert problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Understanding of application design and system configuration
  • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings


Business System Analyst II Required Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years' programming, systems analysis, or business analysis experience, equivalent work experience and/or demonstrated competency.


Sr. Business Systems Analyst Required Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in related field, equivalent work experience or demonstrated competency.
  • 4-6 years' programming, systems analysis, or business analysis experience, equivalent work experience and/or demonstrated competency.


Lead Business Systems Analyst Required Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's Degree - related experience can substitute
  • For this level should be 7 years of related experience in programming, systems analysis, or business analysis
  • Or, equivalent military experience


Preferred Education and Experience for all levels:



  • LOMA courses; Master's degree
  • Experience with process mapping/process documentation
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving experience
  • Configuration experience with Enterprise applications
  • Vast knowledge of insurance
  • Programming or SQL Experience
