Your Role at Cabot:

Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Pilot Plant Chemical Operator at the Pampa Development and Manufacturing Center. This position operates chemical process systems and related equipment performing all tasks in a safe manner and following plant safety policies and procedures. Employees in this role will be able to perform all aspects of the chemical process cycle once fully trained.

• Controls chemical processes and operates all related equipment using the distributed control system (DCS). Follows work instructions (WI), standard operating procedures (SOP), and other written instructions.

• Adjusts controls to regulate variables as per instructions. Performs set up procedures to prepare systems for operation. Collect product samples.

• Properly and safely handle, mix, store, and dispose of chemicals

• Monitors and troubleshoots the process to maintain required operating conditions. Documents process conditions. Conducts in process Quality Control testing.

• Performs weekly reconfiguration of process equipment to support production goals.

• Performs minor maintenance on process equipment and assist maintenance technicians when necessary.

• Package and handle carbon black in up to 50 lb. bags.

• Operate a forklift to transport production materials and final product around the plant.

• Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.

• Performs other duties as assigned. Keeps work area safe and clean.

• Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001 technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.

• Manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to details. General mechanical aptitude.

• Able to read and interpret complex operating instructions. Ability to do basic math operations and unit conversions.

• High level of safety awareness and attention to details.

• Written, verbal communication and active listening skills. Capacity to cross-train with other operating units. Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-based environment.

• Organizational and record keeping skills. Familiarity with computers as a user.

• Flexibility in performing changing assignments and work schedules. May be required to work off-shift hours. This position requires rotating shift work.

• Ability to lift heavy containers and use material handling equipment.

• Ability to remain calm and react effectively in critical situations.

Education/Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent. Depending on location, may need to be certified in the operation of chemical equipment, according to local legislation.

• 2-3 years of chemical operation experience is preferred

• The pay range for this role is $32.57 - $38.58 per hour. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate will depend on the candidate skill, qualifications, and experience.
