Tectonic is seeking a qualified Project Monitoring Archeologist to support various projects on a part-time, as needed basis. This position is primarily remote, with occasional on-site field visits or office attendance as needed to support active construction, monitoring, and coordination efforts. The role plays a critical part in protecting and documenting cultural resources, working closely with engineers, project managers, and field staff to ensure regulatory compliance, accurate documentation, and timely reporting of archaeological findings.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Archaeological monitoring and documenting of various locations on various projects, which includes the oversight of site excavation work for proposed sewer systems, including sewer lines, connections, catch basins, and/or other related area construction project types for the discovery of archaeological resources potential and/or suspected archaeological resources, including human remains;
  • Review of site documentation, research, and existing reports;
  • Implementation of the unanticipated discoveries plans, including compiling the required documentation when archaeological discoveries are made; this may require performing additional associated research and standard excavation and/or sampling techniques the use of soil screening tools to review discoveries;
  • Communicating with project managers, engineers, and other staff regarding project status, archaeological monitoring, and discoveries as needed;
  • Drafting of site reports, and documenting site progress, discoveries, and observations, and compiling reports to be added to the final site report.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • A minimum of 4 years of related work experience, including experience performing archaeological monitoring, experience with Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) a plus;
  • BS Degree or equivalent in Archaeology, Geology, Anthropology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or similar;
  • RPA and MA/MS/SOI qualification required;
  • Must have effective written and oral communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to represent the Company in a professional manner;
  • Must have strong organizational skills;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to utilize site-specific programs as needed;
  • May require a valid driver's license and personal vehicle to travel to and throughout project site as need.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently required to remain stationary and sometimes required to move around the job site to inspect and observe materials relevant to the job and communicate about same. The employee is also sometimes required to traverse the job-site while recording information and must occasionally position themselves to review materials in excavation. The employee is constantly working in outdoor weather conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, biological hazards conditions and sometimes working in the office environment. The employee will also communicate with colleagues, supervisors and clients both orally and in writing through Corporate communication systems. The employee must also occasionally operate a computer and other related office machinery, such as printers, and fax machines. This position also requires the frequent operation of a motor-vehicle, which sometimes may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this job. PAY RANGE


Tectonic's goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably across all positions Companywide. Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate's work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position.


Pay Range: $45.00 - $48.00 / hour
