What to Expect
The quality engineering team is looking for an engineer with Paint background who must have the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented, and have the ability to work independently. They must establish and maintain a professional working relationship with external and internal teams at all levels across the company.
What You'll Do
- Expertise in automotive paint layering systems, body sealers, and application methods like cathodic electro-coat and rotary-bell atomization
- Proficiency with automotive paint materials, including water-borne basecoats and 2K clearcoats
- Training and success in quality problem-solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, and SPC
- Experience with diverse measurement and inspection techniques, including color, orange-peel, mottling, adhesion, film build, surface energy, oven cure, and booth balance
- Lead cross-functional teams for process and product improvements, including problem-solving, root cause investigations, and implementing corrective/preventive actions using QA methodologies
- Develop and implement quality standards within the Tesla Quality System to meet customer expectations, while supporting Design and Process FMEAs and establishing control plans for critical features
- Facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials, manage nonconforming products, and collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Design Engineering, Suppliers, Supplier Quality, and Service teams
- Establish quality performance metrics, drive root cause solutions, determine product specifications/tolerances with Manufacturing and Design Engineering, and audit manufacturing lines against processes
- Assist in identifying/resolving manufacturing quality issues, provide problem-solving support to manufacturing, customers, and Quality peers, including on-site analysis, containment, and disposition
- Contribute to Quality Management System development/improvement, maintain clean/organized work areas via housekeeping and 5S standards, and promote a culture of continuous improvement, efficiency, safety, and enjoyment within the Tesla team
What You'll Bring
- Quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)
- Experienced in GD&T, QS-9000, ISO/TS 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA required
- Hands on measurement experience and data analysis for orange peel, color, film thickness, adhesion and surface energy
- Must be very comfortable with common MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills
