The Japanese Language Extension Instructor shall teach varying levels of non-credit Japanese language courses, based on their skill and experience, to a mix of students from the community. Instructors shall teach a minimum of one course per semester, for a total minimum of three courses per year. Each course lasts fifteen weeks, with one class per week and each class lasts 2 hours. There may be exceptions for special courses designed by the instructor and the
EECOM that may modify the number of weeks, classes per week, and class duration.
Based on experience, skill, and interest, instructors will be assigned to courses ranging from beginner level up to preparation for the
JLPT N1 exam. In order to stay consistent with for-credit courses and most universities in NC, classes are taught based on the Genki and Quartet series. Based on student demand and Instructor availability, Instructors may teach more than one class per week, but the total number of weekly hours shall be fewer than thirty hours.
Courses are offered in both in-person and online formats; instructors may be assigned to teach either modality or a combination of both.
