Job Summary

The Loudoun County Department of General Services is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Senior Building Systems Specialist vacancy. This position organizes, oversees, and manages the acquisition, development, and ongoing management of building systems for County facilities and is part of the Capital Asset Preservation Program (CAPP).

The successful candidate will:

  • Plan, organize, and manage complex construction and maintenance programs to include major facilities maintenance and infrastructure replacement projects.
  • Execute assigned projects, meeting timeline, and budget goals.
  • Manage the development of building assessments.
  • Develop pre-designed programs and professional services, and construction contract scopes of work.
  • Establish facility maintenance and repair programs to ensure safe and effective use, and to enhance the longevity of the facility.
  • Ensure work is executed in accordance with approval plans and specifications.
  • Oversee contractors to ensure all agreement requirements are achieved.
  • Inspect construction sites and hold progress meetings with contractors.
  • Utilize the Asset Management System to assist with project planning and asset procurement.
  • Possess a strong understanding of the trades.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Science, or related field (prefer Master's degree) with coursework in HVAC, plumbing, and/or electrical system design and four (4) years of related work experience managing the engineering, operations, and maintenance of complex building systems or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred:
  • Background and proficiency in Mechanical Systems and/or MEP Trades (Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Prior experience utilizing Asset Management System(s)
  • Professional certifications such as:
    • Project Management Professional (PMP)
    • Facilities Management Professional (FMP)
    • Certified Facilities Manager (CFM)
    • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s), to include criminal, credit, Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) fingerprinting, and DMV checks. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).

Must be able to inspect existing facilities and active construction projects, and will be exposed to inclement weather while in the field. Will be exposed to hazardous conditions associated with construction sites and activities. Must be able to lift seventy (70) pounds. Must be available for duty beyond the normal workday and must be available 24/7 when required to respond to County emergencies.
