What to Expect
As anengineeron Tesla'sHVBatteryCore ProductDesign Engineering Team,you will bethe designpoint of contact responsibleforcontinuouslyimprovingour vehicle batteriescurrently in production.Your scopeincludesall structural, thermal,electrical,and sensingcomponentsrequiredto make a largebattery out ofhundredsof cells.Thecore product designroleistocontinuallyimproveour battery packsin production (cost/mass/performance),launchnew product variants,reinforceour supply chain (qualifying alternative materials/suppliers)anddirectlyparticipateinfactorycapacity expansionefforts.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as the primary design pointof contact for allbatteries found inourhigh-volumepassengervehicles(Model 3 and Y)across multiple cell typesand packconfigurations
  • Own product improvements (cost, complexity reductions,reliability improvements) and refine product specifications
  • ImplementBOM changes, design revisions,and conductbench-level testing
  • Launch new battery variants based on existing architectures (higher/lower energy packs)
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process, and Qualityteamstocutoverproductimprovements
  • Work withfieldqualityand reliabilityto translate field failures into actionablepart design changes, driving warranty improvements
  • Participate in battery teardowns for field and factory failures
  • Participate in design reviewsand change controlprocess
  • Visit suppliers for part qualifications, design change reviews, line audits, etc.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the year to different Tesla factories & offices as well as suppliers
  • Experience a plus but not mandatory; preferably 2-5 years in battery orhigh-volume manufacturing environments
  • Strong Engineering fundamentals in heat transfer,electrical, mechanics, and basic electronics
  • Proficiencyin CAD modeling. CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX experienceisa plus
  • Proficiencywith statistics and data analysis.SPC/Black-Beltproficiencya plus but notmandatory
  • Preferred experience with various manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding,metal stamping, thermoforming, welding/brazing, plating, PCBA/FPC, and bonding
  • Preferred experience in designing for high volume assembly, both manual and automated
  • Adetail-orientedpersonality with solid documentation and reporting skills
  • Experience with student Formula Vehicle, Solar Car, Formula Baja, etc.isa plus
