DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, your primary responsibilities will include patrolling, observing, directing, and monitoring activities at the swimming pool to ensure a safe environment for all visitors. It is essential to remain vigilant at your designated post, continuously scanning the swimming area to prevent accidents and being ready to assist in emergencies. You will need to identify swimmers who may be in distress and require help, promptly reporting any rescues, accidents, or incidents to your supervisor while calling for additional assistance as necessary. In the event of injuries, you will administer first aid, including artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, infants, and children. Compliance with the Bureau of State Parks' swimming regulations is crucial, and you will be responsible for enforcing these rules while providing guidance to park patrons regarding park policies. Regular inspections of safety equipment such as buoys, floats, ropes, and first aid supplies will be part of your duties to ensure everything is in proper working order. Additionally, you will assess the swimming area for any unsafe conditions to guarantee it is safe for public use. You will also be tasked with preparing and submitting detailed reports on swimming conditions, activities, and incidents, ensuring that all necessary documentation, including daily logs and water quality forms, is completed and submitted to the appropriate authorities. A thorough understanding of the DCNR Lifeguard Manual is required, and you will participate in orientation and training sessions to review policies, learn lifesaving techniques, and renew your swimming and first aid certifications. Furthermore, you will take water samples, monitor meters, and document findings, reporting any need for chemical adjustments or equipment malfunctions to your supervisor. Basic maintenance and custodial tasks will also be part of your daily responsibilities to maintain a clean and safe swimming area, which may include litter pickup and other related duties.
