East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified applicants to apply for this Limited Term (LT) position (up to 2 years) in the Information Systems Department. Assignments provide opportunities for Interns to apply information technology (IT) knowledge acquired through college coursework to a diverse set of business systems in a major water and wastewater utility. Successful performance requires the ability to demonstrate existing skills and learn new ones in a variety of contemporary IT specialties such as PC network support, system software, new application development and/or system enhancements, database administration, and communications. Interns may be rotated between assignments depending on the needs of the District and the skills of the individual. Assignments typically include some independent work in addition to opportunity to assist professional and technical employees on specific projects. Knowledge of PC / laptop installation, maintenance and repair; software installation and problem resolution experience; basic knowledge of network (LAN/WAN) architecture and functionality; and A/V experience preferred.
Examples of duties include:
*Assists in and installs and configures personal computers, printers, A/V equipment, and other peripheral devices; assists in and installs District standard software packages on PC's.
*Takes phoned in requests for assistance at the Service Desk and either provides assistance over the phone on end-user applications and general hardware or software problems or assists in determining schedules for response timelines with other Service Desk staff.
* Assists in and develops and maintains Intranet web pages using District standard software; may assist in the design and development of new web formats.
*Assists in and fabricates and installs cables for data and voice equipment and performs wiring changes in communication closets for telephone and/or computer connectivity.
*Assists in and performs relocations, additions, and changes of telephones.
*Assists in and conducts feasibility studies and prepares reports on data requirements, database design, personnel and hardware/software requirements.
*Assists in and develops specifications for new or modified systems considering data and workflows, logical processes, and data structures; may make presentations to user groups and develop and or test prototypes of system enhancements or new applications; writes programming code and system documentation.
*Assists in maintaining and enhancing web content, including updating pages, formatting materials
*Assists in developing, editing and organizing training materials and online resources to support staff learning
*Assists in and installs, modifies, monitors, and maintains system software including operating systems, database software, and network communications software.
*Assists in analyzing and evaluating vendor supplied software and hardware products.
*Assists in the initializing, modifying, and maintaining large computer (server) system hardware; may assist in monitoring computer system and network performance including troubleshooting performance problems.

1.Either 1a or 1b:
1a)Recent graduation (within 12 months) from a four-year college, preferably with a major in data processing, computer science, telecommunications, or closely related field; OR
1b)Current college enrollment as a senior including completion of at least twelve units in information technology.
AND
2.Completion of an EBMUD internship, college internship, or some work experience in an information systems environment comparable to EBMUD's Information Technology Intern I
3.Must be able to work on site for the duration of the internship.
Must possess physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the job. Must be willing to work overtime as needed. Duties may require maintaining a physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or bending for prolonged periods of time.
