The University of Arizona's University Information Technology Services (UITS) seeks an IT Enterprise Architect III (SACM Architect) to lead and mature the University's enterprise Service Asset & Configuration Management (SACM) program. This position designs, builds, and governs the structures, processes, integrations, and data models that enable the effective management of technology assets and configuration information across the institution. Serving as the steward of the ServiceNow CMDB and related discovery, asset, and service-mapping capabilities, the SACM Architect ensures that configuration data accurately reflects the IT environment, supporting decision-making for operations, security, compliance, and strategic planning. The role balances architectural governance with hands-on CMDB expertise, enabling a sustainable SACM program aligned to ITIL 4 and the Common Service Data Model (CSDM). Candidates working anywhere in the U.S. may be considered for a remote assignment.If you are selected for this position and are employed to work remotely from outside of Arizona, your overtime exemption status will depend on the laws of the state where you perform your work. For employees working outside of Arizona, you may be hired as an hourly employee in accordance with state laws. A comparable hourly rate range would be $48.03 to $62.44 per hour. These changes would not affect the position duties as outlined. | Duties & Responsibilities |
Program Leadership & Strategy: Program Leadership & Strategy
- Leads the development and maintenance of the University's SACM framework in alignment with ITIL, CSDM, and UITS enterprise architecture standards.
- Defines the SACM vision, roadmap, and maturity goals in partnership with senior leadership and stakeholders across IT Operations, Security, Enterprise Architecture, and Business Services.
- Establishes policies and data-governance models for configuration items, assets, and service relationships.
- Promotes SACM as a key enabler of change, incident, problem, and financial management, and guides governance forums on data health, ownership, and continual improvement.
Architecture & Tool Enablement
- Architects and maintains the ServiceNow CMDB as the system of record supporting SACM processes.
- Designs and builds the CMDB data model, relationships, and integrations in alignment with CSDM v4+ standards.
- Oversees discovery sources, integration hub, data fabric, and external data feeds such as SCCM, cloud inventories, and network tools.
- Defines and implements reconciliation, duplication, and data-certification processes to ensure data integrity.
- Partners with procurement, asset, and operations teams to link asset lifecycles with configuration records, and develops dashboards and automated controls to monitor SACM health, compliance, and accuracy.
Governance & Collaboration
- Engages stakeholders across academic and administrative units to define ownership, accountability, and maintenance of configuration items.
- Serves as a liaison between technical teams and process owners, translating business needs into effective configuration solutions.
- Leads architecture reviews, workshops, and training sessions to advance SACM maturity, and mentors staff involved in SACM operations and CMDB administration.
Operations & Continuous Improvement
- Monitors and reports on SACM performance through key metrics such as completeness, correctness, compliance, and timeliness.
- Conducts regular audits and health checks, driving remediation plans for data-quality issues.
- Coordinates change-management processes to safeguard data integrity during deployments and supports ServiceNow upgrade planning to maintain CMDB and asset module compliance.
- Promotes continuous improvement and transparency through ongoing governance reviews and stakeholder feedback.
Engagement & Professional Development
- Contributes to organizational excellence through mentorship, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Provides guidance to junior developers and administrators supporting SACM, CMDB, and ServiceNow platform operations.
- Participates in governance initiatives such as the Service Catalog Review Board and helps advance adoption of the University's guiding principles for service management.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support enterprise IT strategy, service quality, and process improvement.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Expert knowledge of Service Asset & Configuration Management (SACM) principles and ITIL 4 frameworks.
- Strong technical mastery of ServiceNow CMDB, Discovery, Service Mapping, Integration Hub, Workflow Data Fabric, and MID servers.
- Deep understanding of configuration data modeling, service relationships, and asset lifecycle integration.
- Proven ability to drive cross-organizational governance, communicate complex concepts to non-technical audiences, and lead change initiatives.
- Knowledge of cloud-asset discovery (AWS, Azure, GCP) and integration with on-prem infrastructure.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional-level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

- Experience establishing data-governance frameworks and process automation for configuration management.
- Experience implementing or optimizing SACM maturity models and CSDM alignment.
- Experience with ITAM, Change Enablement, Security Operations, and Enterprise Architecture disciplines.
- Experience designing and governing enterprise data models and integrations across diverse platforms.
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) and CIS - CMDB, CIS - ITOM, or CIS - Service Mapping certifications.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
