Responsibilities

The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) continues to be a leader in providing the highest level of quality and compassionate healthcare for the D.C. Region. U.S. News & World Report has just released the 2023-2024 ratings and rankings, in which GW Hospital is recognized as a Best Regional Hospital. GW ranks 5th in the region, which includes hospitals in D.C. and parts of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.

GW Hospital achieved "High Performing" status in two specialty areas, Neurology and Neuroscience.

In addition, GW Hospital receiving "High Performing" designations for the following 10 procedures: COPD, Diabetes, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Kidney Failure, Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma, Lung Cancer Surgery, Pneumonia, Prostrate Cander Surgery and Stroke.

Measured by factors such as patient outcomes, "High Performing" is a designation U.S. News & World Report bestows to recognize performance in these specialties that is significantly better than the national average. GW Hospital received the American College of Cardiology's National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) Chest Pain - Myocardial Infarction (MI) Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2023. *GW Hospital is the only hospital in Washington, D.C., to be recognized for this service line.

Director - Provider Relations

Strategically plans, implements, and leads outreach efforts designed to foster physician alliance and improve relationships
within healthcare community markets and service areas. Grows business opportunities and maximizes referral and
redirection opportunities through the development of synergistic partnerships with providers, community groups, and
other inpatient/outpatient associations. Monitors outcomes and participates in performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Operates departments of responsibility in such a way as to meet the fiscal goals of the organization.
    Implements value added programs and services. Manages the satisfaction of department customers to
    include patients, employees and physicians through effective communication and appropriate
    responsiveness to customer issues.
  • In conjunction with C-Suite, develops outreach objectives based on facility strategic
    plan. Demonstrates knowledge of the hospital and competitor strengths and weaknesses
    regarding service lines, technology, and physicians. Provides solutions for increasing
    the hospital's position competitively within assigned areas
  • Performs research on physicians to determine potential for hospital and ambulatory
    utilization. Oversees creation of a target list of physician contacts whose business is
    desired by system. Plans and implements visits to physicians, their staff and other
    potential referral and business sources. Maintains good account relationships and
    implements innovative selling ideas and methodologies
  • Reports on key activities and communication through company approved CRM tool
    Meets company requirements for base level of admissions, surgeries and/or outpatient
    visits. Monitors outcomes of volume growth activities to identify process improvement
    opportunities
  • Communicate operational and service issues to hospital leaders and improvements
    requested or suggested by physicians. Conducts follow-up with all involved in issue
    resolution
  • Participates in the development of hospital service line marketing plans, physician
    recruitment/retention plans and outreach activities intended for identified physician
    audience
  • Carries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned/required

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred
  • Solid knowledge of hospital operating environment needed
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in healthcare sales or network development environment. Experience in
    physician relations, network, marketing, or business development preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of physician, hospital and healthcare issues including managed care/reimbursement,
    practice operation issues, credentialing, recruitment, and governance
  • Understanding of standards and laws applicable to physician recruitment, planning and business development

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Ability to interpret and consider physician volume and payer mix data in the development of an overall hospital
    and market positioning
  • Effective project management and plan execution skills with the ability to respond to multiple competing
    priorities
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Additional languages preferred
  • Capacity to articulate change/value propositions to physicians and their staff and interact with hospital and
    corporate colleagues regarding compliance and adherence to regulatory guidelines
  • Excellent human relations skills with the ability to impact and influence results
  • Little to no guidance provided by Supervisor on a daily basis
