Transportation Technician

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate Transportation Technician to join our Transportation team in Atlanta, Georgia. Are you ready to contribute your knowledge to help deliver innovative engineering solutions to our clients!? Join us at S&ME!

Although based out of our Duluth office, this role will support projects throughout central Georgia.

As a Transportation Technician, you'll work closely with engineers, project managers, and field personnel to perform inspections and materials testing on infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, greenways, airports, ports, and rail systems.

Your Day-to-Day:



  • Inspection & Oversight: Monitor contractor activities (earthwork, paving, vertical construction) for compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate daily logs, notes, photos, and communication records.
  • Technical Tasks: Collect and test materials, evaluate results, report findings, and assist with remediation of non-compliant results.
  • Communication: Coordinate with contractors and senior staff to keep projects on track.



What You Bring:



  • One of the following combinations of education and experience:

    • High school diploma/GED and 2+ years of highway or airport construction/inspection experience OR
    • 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology


  • Active industry-related certifications (or willingness to obtain within 6 months):

    • ACI Field Testing Grade I
    • ICC Special Inspector - Soils
    • GDOT Roadway Testing Technician (RTT) / Quality Control Technician (QCT Level 1)
    • GSWCC Level 1A or 1B Erosion Control Inspector


  • Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills in English, including speaking, reading, and writing
  • Basic math skills with an understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • The understanding of a fluctuating schedule and occasional travel



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:



  • Working outdoors with your hand's majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for long periods, potentially up to 12 hours a day
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
