The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Driver License Examiner Assistant in Harrisburg. This vital role within PennDOT involves supporting the Driver License Examiner in ensuring highway safety by assisting customers at the Driver License Center. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Driver's License Examiner Assistant plays a crucial role at a Driver License Center, where they provide essential driver licensing services to the public. This position entails a variety of responsibilities, including professionally greeting customers and engaging directly with them to verify identification, assist in completing application forms, and inputting data into online driver license application systems. The assistant is also responsible for distributing relevant forms and informational brochures tailored to the specific needs of each customer. In addition to these tasks, the assistant administers standardized knowledge tests to assess applicants' comprehension of motor vehicle regulations, driving laws, and traffic control devices. A vision screening is conducted for all applicants using a telebinocular instrument to ensure visual acuity meets required standards.

Furthermore, the assistant is tasked with entering test results and customer applications into online software systems via a PC terminal, ensuring accurate data management. They must be well-versed in the services offered and the associated requirements, including the criteria for obtaining REAL ID and non-REAL ID products. The assistant provides guidance on various services, such as license renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, motorcycle licenses, and commercial driver's licenses (CDLs), while also being knowledgeable about the specific restrictions and endorsements related to commercial licenses. Upon request, they generate Restoration Requirements Letters for customers who visit in person.

Additionally, the assistant is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate fee waiver codes are applied and documented whenever necessary, adhering strictly to the Fee Waiver Guidelines. Compliance with all aspects of the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy is mandatory, as is the correct processing of REAL ID regulations. Maintaining a clean, organized, and accessible workspace is essential to facilitate efficient service delivery. The assistant also issues and scans documents for Non-Native Born US Citizens, ensuring that all procedures are followed meticulously to uphold the integrity of the licensing process.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours/week
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel to other driver license centers may be required as necessary.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
