Job Overview

Relativity powers the world's most critical legal, compliance, and investigative work. From corporate compliance to human rights, our platform must preserve trust in global investigations while handling petabytes of sensitive evidence. Our team builds the distributed data backbone that powers AI-assisted evidence analysis across billions of documents daily. We are at the forefront of Legal Data Intelligence, building technology that helps organizations Organize Data, Discover Truth, and Act on It.

You'll join the Customer Strategic Data team, which builds the data platform that describes and establishes the context of a legal matter, powering better human and AI decision-making. Our services are at the forefront of data intelligence: enriching evidence sets, expanding what's relevant, and improving the quality and defensibility of responsiveness outcomes at global scale.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, build, and optimize high-performance data systems that handle massive volumes of structured and unstructured information. You'll work across cloud environments, data orchestration tools, and real-time processing frameworks, ensuring our data ecosystem is both resilient and ready to fuel AI innovation. This is a hands-on technical role with leadership expectations: you'll influence architecture, mentor others, and shape the future of data engineering at Relativity. Your contributions will directly influence some of the most critical legal processes worldwide, from real-time investigations to large-scale litigation.

Job Description and Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Architect, build, and operate distributed systems that process large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
  • Design and deliver scalable, secure, and observable data integration and ETL solutions using dbt to ensure end-to-end data integrity and availability.
  • Partner with AI/ML engineers and data scientists to build data foundations that accelerate model training, experimentation, and production deployment.
  • Drive innovation in data infrastructure and workflow automation to accelerate analytical and AI capabilities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, AI/ML, and platform teams to deliver data solutions that power critical business outcomes.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to company-wide standards for high-performance, reliable data systems.

What You'll Bring

  • 5 - 8 years of professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, or backend systems at scale.
  • Proven ability to design and optimize complex data systems for performance, scalability, and security.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT principles, and workflow orchestration.
  • Experience with modern software development practices, including CI/CD, testing, and infrastructure automation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex data concepts to diverse audiences.
  • A passion for creating clarity and insight through data, not just managing pipelines.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience with Databricks and/or Azure-based data architectures.
  • Background in building data systems that support machine learning or AI-driven applications.
  • Experience leading modernization or migration of large-scale data platforms.
  • Familiarity with observability and cost-optimization strategies for distributed data systems.

What Success Looks Like

  • First 3 months: Deliver data pipeline enhancements and become fluent in our platform's architecture. Develop a deep understanding of our data domains and key stakeholders.
  • 6 months: Establish yourself as an owner of a major data flow end-to-end, improving performance, reliability, and data quality.
  • 12 months: Lead data engineering initiatives that expand Relativity's analytics and AI capabilities. Mentor others and influence data engineering standards company-wide.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Impactful mission: Your work supports investigations, litigation, and compliance that affect lives and industries worldwide.
  • Modern data stack: Work with cutting-edge tools and scalable cloud architectures.
  • Growth path: Opportunities to lead, learn, and expand your impact across AI and product ecosystems.
  • Inclusive environment: Diverse backgrounds and perspectives make us stronger.
  • Compensation & benefits: Competitive salary, equity, flexible work options, and professional development support.
