For more information visit our website at www.kearfott.com Manufacturing Engineering Manager Overview The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead a team supporting the manufacture of inertial navigation systems. The candidate will be responsible for driving process and product improvement initiatives across Kearfott's product lines, and guiding department members as they work to support these initiatives. The ideal candidate is a technical expert in at least one field relevant to Kearfott's product portfolio, and can lead a team to make the most of a diverse set of skills and experiences. This position will report to the head of the Manufacturing Engineering Department. Essential Functions * Serves as a model of critical roles and responsibilities within the Manufacturing Engineering Department, and train department members on these functions. These critical roles include: * Propose solutions to eliminate inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and low-yield processes. Then, implement those solutions. * Create and update work instructions and operation sheets that describe the manufacture of polished optical components, in accordance with AS9100 standards. * Train technicians and engineers to carry out documented manufacturing procedures. * Help define key characteristics of product performance, and report on these characteristics at regular intervals. * Perform root cause analysis of production failures. * Design manufacturing and test equipment and create data structures to store and report key data from this equipment. * Propose capital projects for the fabrication of complex manufacturing capital equipment and coordinate the completion of these projects. * Coordinate projects to transfer new products from the design stage to production. * Communicate manufacturing and technical requirements to vendors and customers. * Manage subordinate staff in their accomplishment of their day-to-day duties. Evaluate their performance. * Work with members of the department to set individual goals in support of the department goals. * Make key staffing decisions within the department Critical Competencies * 5+ years of hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas is required (experience in multiple areas preferred): electronics assembly, five-axis metal or glass machining, cleanroom assembly, thin-film deposition, inertial systems assembly and test, fiber optics assembly and test * Technical expertise in at least one of the following areas required: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, photonics, optical engineering, materials science, industrial engineering * Capable of working independently as well as providing technical and operational leadership within a cross-functional team of engineers and technicians. * Detail-oriented and a demonstrated background in process development and improvement. * Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills required. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required. * Demonstrated excellence working with ERP systems. * Familiarity with electrical/mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Ansys, etc.) and/or computational software (Matlab, Python, etc.) required. General Requirements * Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited educational institution required, Master's degree preferred. * Previous experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment preferred. * Previous experience working in ISO9001/AS9100 certified manufacturing facilities required. * Previous experience working in cleanrooms (ISO Class 4 through Class 7) preferred. * Minimum Six Sigma Green Belt required. * Must be a US Citizen. In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $125,000 - $150,000 Annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
