The Pharmacy provides pharmaceutical services to patients across the continuum of care. Services include, but are not limited to verification of medication orders, drug distribution, sterile product preparation, hazardous drug preparation and a meds to beds program for inpatients.

Pharmacy technician III is a certified pharmacy technician position who supports pharmacy services by assembling and participating in the distribution of medications. A pharmacy technician III will need certification by a nationally recognized pharmacy technician certification board. This position will assist the department's professional staff, under direct supervision, in numerous aspects of ordering, receiving, storage, distribution, and monitoring medication use. This position will also require knowledge of USP 797 and sterile compounding.

Description:

Responsibility: Pharmacy Operations and Compliance

Essential Duties

  • Maintain a clean, safe pharmacy and follow infection control policies.

  • Fill, package, label, and stock medications according to laws and guidelines.

  • Perform inspections, manage inventory, and rotate stock.

  • Handle controlled substances per department procedures.

  • Prepare sterile compounds and maintain compliance with compounding regulations.

  • Mentor new staff in sterile compounding processes.

  • Complete required documentation and attend assigned meetings.

Responsibility: Customer Interaction and Communication

Essential Duties: Greet and assist patients and healthcare providers; refer clinical questions to pharmacists.

Deliver medications accurately and on time.

  • Support medication security and perform basic medication profile inquiries.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the formulary and standard abbreviations.

  • Assist with training new staff and participate in meetings.

Responsibility: Logistics and Workflow Management

Essential Duties

  • Restock returned medications and emergency boxes; help monitor waste.

  • Maintain efficient workflow and report issues promptly.

  • Prioritize tasks based on patient impact.

  • Order medications, monitor backorders, and maintain inventory as needed.

Requirements: * Registration with Kentucky Board of Pharmacy (KY hospitals), within 30 days of hire date if you are a new registrant. If previously registered, you must have registration upon hire. Nationally certified as a pharmacy technician OR Pharmacy Intern license.
