The Surgical Intermediate Care Unit is a fast-paced 12-bed unit providing intermediate care to a variety of adult patient populations. Patients admitted to the SIMU have undergone complex surgical procedures, have traumatic injuries from a variety of mechanisms, and/or require frequent interventions and monitoring. With typical 1:3 nurse:patient rations, the SIMU nurses work with the interprofessional team to assess, plan, and implement care. Nurses in the SIMU care for patients receiving high risk medications, including medications for conscious sedation for complex procedures both on the unit and in procedural areas. UVA Health University Medical Center RN job duties and responsibilities integrate the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practiceand the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements, and the UVA Nursing Professional Practice Model.
Minimum Qualifications- Education: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing BSN/MSN program that will be completed within 5 years of hire. Experience: RN Clinician 2 or higher who has been employed on the unit for 6 months or has had previous Charge Nurse experience from another unit/organization. Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Physical Demands- Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. Compensation- New hire compensationwill be determinedbyprevious work experience, education and/or experience. Onboarding Requirements Background checksandpre-employment health screeningswill be conducted on all new hires prior to employment.All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require adrug screen.
