Job Description

Discover the opportunity to join Baker College, honored as one of the 2024 & 2025 Best and Brightest Workplaces in West Michigan, Metro Detroit and Nationally!

Join a creative, learner-focused team that's shaping the future of education through innovative instructional design. Baker College is looking for a Senior Instructional Designer to join our team.

Learning is evolving-and so should the way we design it. The Senior Instructional Designer will serve as the visionary force behind transforming how knowledge is delivered and experienced across the institution. This role combines strategic leadership, pedagogical expertise, and technological innovation to create inclusive, data-informed learning environments that empower both educators and learners to excel.

The Senior Instructional Designer leads the instructional design team with expert discretion, driving the creation of high-impact, technology-enhanced learning experiences that integrate AI, adaptive learning, and immersive tools. This role oversees the entire course design lifecycle-from needs assessment to quality assurance and evaluation-using Understanding by Design (UbD) principles to align outcomes, assessments, and activities across all modalities. Committed to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) standards, the Senior Instructional Designer ensures accessibility and equity in every course. By leveraging learning analytics, fostering continuous innovation, mentoring design staff, and collaborating with faculty and leadership, this position advances a future-focused, data-driven, and pedagogically sound curriculum that meets the highest institutional and accreditation standards.

A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field is required. Candidates should have at least seven years of experience in a senior-level instructional design role, with a demonstrated ability to lead technology-driven curriculum projects within higher education or corporate learning environments. Experience in implementing large-scale e-learning initiatives is preferred, along with expertise in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, adaptive learning, virtual reality, or learning experience platforms (LXP). A strong background in change management and faculty development is also desirable, particularly with experience applying Understanding by Design (UbD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies.

The successful candidate will believe in and support the student first philosophy while contributing to the overall success of Baker College, and acting as a positive role model and brand ambassador on and off campus.

At Baker College, we're on a mission to transform education with a Student-First philosophy. Our President's vision is ambitious and dedicated to creating an environment where students, faculty, and staff flourish.
