What to Expect
We're seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer with expertise in laser welding to lead the development and launch of advanced assembly and test processes for Tesla's Energy Products. In this role, you'll drive high-quality, efficient production of power electronics by designing, developing, and implementing innovative laser welding and manufacturing solutions that meet high-volume production goals. This role requires onsite presence at our newest Megafactory 3 in the Greater Houston, TX area to support pilot and launch activities for 18-24 months. Following this phase, the position will transition to our Gigafactory in Austin, TX. Commuter or relocation support will be provided.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop advanced manufacturing processes that enable high-volume production with improved quality, reduced cost, and increased efficiency
- Deploy manufacturing processes and equipment to production through rigorous tool qualification, documentation, and training, with a focus on laser welding
- Ramp processes to meet production targets for cycle time, availability, yield, quality, and reliability, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Apply diverse manufacturing and quality techniques-including fastening, welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, vision inspection, leak testing, and electrical testing-to ensure product excellence
- Lead cross-functional teams to solve complex problems through structured problem-solving, data-driven decisions, and collaborative leadership
What You'll Bring
- 4+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or similar, with direct responsibility for developing, deploying, ramping, and optimizing complex assembly processes in automated high-volume production environments
- Experience working with laser welding systems
- Experience with lean and six sigma principles, including proficiency in tools such as DMAIC, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Design of Experiments (DOE),Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Process Capability Analysis (PCA), statistical process control (SPC), and Kaizen
- Proficiency in data querying, analysis, and visualization using tools like MySQL, Python, R, JMP, or Tableau to make data-driven decisions and drive business results
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
