Indy Star is seeking a is seeking a Motorsports Reporter. We are looking for someone who can produce high-value storytelling that includes context and analysis, entertaining features and investigative pieces.

Indy Star is winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, including in 2021 for national reporting. You'll work with and learn from some of journalism's best while living in a vibrant and diverse city in the heart of the Midwest.

The position will report to assistant sports editor Aaron Ferguson. The ability to break news is critical, and this reporter must be able to develop strong sourcing. This reporter will develop content that takes advantage of all delivery forms available to us, including social media, podcast, video, television and online.

Responsibilities:

• Primary responsibilities will focus on coverage of Indy Car and all other motors sports based out of Indianapolis.
• Assist in coverage of big events (NCAA events, etc.).
• Be a curious, assertive and self-starting journalist who jumps to report on breaking news and trending topics with urgency.
• Harness social media and messaging platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Tik Tok and Reddit, as news gathering tools.
• Optimize stories for target audience groups using SEO and metrics information.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least two years of professional journalism experience, with experience on a major beat preferred.
• An entrepreneurial approach to growing audience and a dedicated following.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to take photos and record video/audio in the field.
• Solid news judgment that's guided by experience with audience metrics.
• Strong sense of journalism ethics and grounding in basics of media law.
• Commitment to reporting with fairness, compassion and sensitivity.
• Command of AP style and dedication to accuracy.
