Compensation: $90,000 - $100,000 (depending on experience)

many excellent benefits! The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of
Minnesota currently seeks an energetic, dedicated and engaged professional to join our
organization. As the Software Asset and Access Product Owner (SAAPO), you will play a key
role in shaping the University's software strategy. You'll define and manage the product backlog
and provide leadership to a team responsible for tracking and distributing software assets as
well as providing access using modern technology solutions. This is a strategic and hands-on
role that requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Software Asset Management

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Software Asset Management and Lifecycle
    program with leadership from the Product Manager and input from key stakeholders.
  • Gather stakeholder requirements for software asset management and prioritize work
    efforts.
  • Establish and maintain accurate software asset records and audit processes.
  • Serve as the primary vendor contact for a specified set of common good and cost-share
    licenses.

Software Distribution & Access

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather software needs and ensure timely, efficient
    delivery.
  • Lead a team and participate in packaging and distributing software and patches using
    tools like Intune, JAMF, SCCM, and others.
  • Oversee provisioning and deprovisioning of software access using Grouper, Active
    Directory, SSO, and license servers.
  • Create and run service delivery processes that support compliance with other university
    processes and policies, vendor licensing terms, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage change processes for software services and act as an escalation point for
    service delivery issues.

Strategic Leadership

  • Represent OIT in strategic discussions, including annual lab software refreshes and
    cost-share planning.
  • Work with the Product Manager to define features and priorities for the software agile
    team.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications (please document on resume):

  • BA/BS plus at least two years of experience, or master's degree .
  • Prior experience as a team lead, lead analyst, product owner, product manager, project
    manager, or similar.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within an Agile/SAFe environment.
  • Experience with Software Asset Management, Software Packaging, Patching, Mobile
    Device Management
  • Vendor Relationship Management experience
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to data privacy and security.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $90,000 - $100,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
