About the Team/Role
We are seeking a seasoned Sr. Manager of Engineering in the WEX Financial Systems organization. This role will lead globally distributed engineering teams responsible for critical financial platforms that power Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), and modernization initiatives across WEX. You will oversee the OTR Financial System, the North America (NAM) Financial Systems , and the Legacy Services Modernization Team. These platforms serve as the system of record for receivables and payables, power billing and collections, and deliver the General Ledger feeds supporting enterprise reconciliation. They handle billions of dollars in monthly transactions and are foundational to WEX's financial stability and growth. Your leadership will guide teams modernizing legacy platforms, introducing API-first architecture, advancing event-driven and microservices-based systems, and evaluating long-term strategies including hybrid ERP/microservices models or fully custom AR solutions.
How you'll make an impact -
Leadership & Strategy
Develop, drive, and execute a long-term vision and modernization strategy for OTR Financial Systems, NAM Financial Systems, and legacy transformation. Drive priorities in collaboration with product, finance, and commercial partners, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals. Maintain a clear roadmap with interdependent OKRs spanning AR, AP, and modernization domains. Establish and communicate a robust engineering roadmap that motivates globally distributed teams.
Technical Ownership & Execution
Be a hands-on technical leader with ownership of systems design across Financial systems, APIs, and modernization platforms. Drive end-to-end delivery of initiatives such as Same-Day ACH, AP bank transitions, ERP evaluations, and API deployments. Lead cross-team modernization projects, ensuring consistent adoption of microservices, event-driven architecture, Kafka streaming, CI/CD automation, and observability frameworks. Advance the API maturity model by building out enterprise-standard endpoints and decoupling legacy systems. Ensure security, compliance, and financial risk controls are deeply embedded in system designs.
Team Development & Culture
Hire, mentor, and grow high-performing engineers across the U.S., India (including Engineering Manager), and Brazil. Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement. Maintain structured career growth plans and provide continuous feedback to team members. Ensure effective global collaboration across multiple time zones and cultural contexts.
Collaboration & Efficiency
Partner with Finance, Product, and Commercial leaders to align technology with business outcomes. Collaborate across WEX engineering teams to share modernization frameworks, APIs, and best practices. Establish strong operating mechanisms for planning, execution, and accountability. Influence and communicate effectively with senior leadership, providing insights on progress, risks, and opportunities.
Experience you'll bring
Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering. 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 4+ years in engineering management. Proven expertise in financial systems (AR/AP/GL), large-scale distributed systems, and high-volume transaction processing. Deep understanding of API-driven architecture, event streaming (Kafka), microservices, cloud-native systems, and CI/CD pipelines. Strong knowledge of security, compliance, and risk management in financial systems. Excellent leadership, team-building, and dynamic decision-making skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, global environment with complex dependencies.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience on API integration patterns along with experience in ERP systems (ex: Workday, SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle) Experience building or modernizing credit, billing, or AR/AP platforms. Familiarity with cloud platforms, Docker, Fabric, observability tooling (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana). Track record of delivering financial modernization initiatives at scale.
The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan. Pay Range: $165,000.00 - $220,000.00
