This role requires a strong commitment to FAA regulations, including Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) under 14 CFR Parts 61 and 141, while fostering a collaborative team environment. The successful candidate will manage or assist in daily operations, mentor instructors and students, and ensure the program's alignment with USU's educational mission. Appointment as Chief or Assistant Chief will be based on qualifications and experience. You will be managing a fleet of Diamond Aircraft with one C172. All aircraft are equipped with ADS-B and G1000. Responsibilities Oversee or assist in all flight training activities at the Price satellite location, including scheduling, curriculum delivery, and student progress evaluations. Ensure strict adherence to FAA requirements, FARs, and USU policies, including safety protocols, record-keeping, and certification processes. Lead or collaborate with a team of flight instructors, ground instructors, and support staff to maintain high standards of instruction and operational efficiency. Manage or support the satellite location's resources, including aircraft maintenance coordination, facility oversight, and budget input. Conduct stage checks, proficiency evaluations, and endorsements for students and instructors. Develop and implement training programs, safety initiatives, and continuous improvement strategies. Serve as a liaison or support liaison between the Price satellite and USU's main aviation program, reporting on performance metrics and compliance. Promote a positive learning environment, addressing student concerns and supporting diversity in aviation education. Participate in recruitment efforts, community outreach, and professional development activities. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Chief Flight Instructor FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) certificates. Commercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane Single-Engine Land (ASEL) and Instrument Airplane ratings (Multi-Engine Land preferred). Minimum of 1,000 hours total flight time, including 500 hours of dual instruction given. Thorough knowledge of FARs (14 CFR Parts 61, 91, and 141) and FAA advisory circulars relevant to flight training. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting while independently managing a remote satellite operation. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Eligibility to work in the United States and pass a background check. Assistant Chief Flight Instructor FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) certificates. Commercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane Single-Engine Land (ASEL) and Instrument Airplane ratings (Multi-Engine Land preferred). Minimum of 1,000 hours total flight time, including 300 hours of dual instruction given. Thorough knowledge of FARs (14 CFR Parts 61, 91, and 141) and FAA advisory circulars relevant to flight training. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting while supporting management of a remote satellite operation. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Eligibility to work in the United States and pass a background check. Preferred Qualifications (Applicable to Both Positions): FAA Gold Seal Flight Instructor certification. Experience as a Chief or Assistant Chief Instructor in a Part 141 flight school. Advanced ratings such as Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) or Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI). Prior experience in higher education or university-affiliated aviation programs. Familiarity with flight simulation technology and modern aviation software (e.g., scheduling tools, electronic record-keeping). Commitment to safety management systems (SMS) and risk assessment in aviation. Experience managing a team of Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs). Proficiency in using, updating, and developing Training Course Outlines (TCOs), lesson plans, and course content. Demonstrated ability to identify and implement improvements to streamline flight training operations. Experience in recruitment of students and instructors for aviation programs. Experience as a Quality Manager in an aviation training environment. Knowledge of FAA operational systems, including Web-based Operations Safety System (WebOPSS), Safety Assurance System (SAS), and similar tools. Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, ability to maintain a flexible work schedule that may include working nights and weekends.
