Overview
Utah State University Extension invites applications for a County Extension faculty position in the Home and Community Department and 4-H Youth Programs in Emery County. This is a 12-month, fiscal-year appointment, non-tenure track Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor Position. Extension faculty develop, implement, evaluate, and coordinate research-based educational programs to enhance quality of life for youth and adults. Extension faculty also recruit, train, and supervise volunteer leaders and serve as a liaison between local clientele, other resource agencies, and Utah State University administrators, faculty, and programs. This Extension position includes university responsibilities and is based in Emery County. This position is 95% Extension and 5% Service.

An office will be provided at the USU Extension office in Castle Dale, Utah.

Rank will be commensurate with experience, qualifications and current rank. Appointment opportunities include Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor (non-tenure track). A Bachelor's degree and substantial professional experience is required for the Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to Extension activities in the Home and Community field
  • Conduct a community needs assessment to adapt and bring in programming needed to serve the community
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs for adults and youth
  • Develop partnerships and employ innovative approaches to reach clientele and new audiences
  • Pursue internal and external funding to support Extension programming
  • Document impacts and produce scholarly publications based on Extension programming
  • Manage budgets, personnel, and volunteers
  • Serve diverse audiences and support the civil rights mandate of Utah State University Extension
  • Serve and collaborate with other Extension County faculty and specialists, University personnel, community and government agencies, and stakeholders


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • An earned bachelor's degree with significant experience related to the position in a discipline such as: family and consumer sciences, public health, nutrition, food sciences, social work, mental health, psychology, finance, business, human development, family studies, health and wellness, or related areas.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct educational programs
  • Experience in teaching adult and/or youth audiences
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Ability to act as a liaison between federal, state, university and county clientele
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Must have a current driver's license, auto insurance, and access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be willing to work with community leaders, partners, agencies, and USU county faculty and state specialists to meet various county needs in the program areas described in the position summary, including reaching diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of program development and/or delivery related to area of expertise, as listed above or similar
  • Previous experience and knowledge in working with 4-H and youth development
  • Proficiency in using education technology tools to enhance teaching and learning
  • Implementing applied research and evidence-based activities
  • Grant, professional, and scientific writing and grant management
  • Recruiting, supervising, and working with staff and volunteers
  • Working with diverse, low income, rural, and under-served audiences
  • Marketing and community engagement via social media
  • Public speaking and presenting
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish (Bilingual)
  • Willing and able to reach various cultural diversity needs within the county, including Latinx programming
  • Prior experience with the Land Grant University System
  • Knowledge of USU Extension and understanding of Emery County demographics
