POSITION SUMMARY: The Division of Student Life; Recreational Services is seeking a Mind & Body Instructor to provide a safe, comfortable, and motivating class for all fitness levels and ages.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE:



  • Enforces facility policies and procedures (accessibility issues, rules of activity).
  • Works cooperatively with other areas of the department to achieve established goals.
  • Driven to learn the names of participants who attend your classes.
  • Dressing appropriately for teaching exercise classes.
  • Must be able to think independently and develop safe and effective sequences for teaching various exercise class to all fitness levels.
  • Must be alert and aware of signs of exercise-induced distress.
  • Willingness to seek out educational (such as keeping up-to-date on safety and fitness trends) and sharing this information with your class participants
  • Motivating class participants to the best of your ability.
  • Noting new participants and sharing basic exercise information with them.
  • Instructors should provide an effective, safe, and challenging workout routine for the type of exercise class that they are instructing.
  • Reporting any equipment/facility problems to the Coordinator of Group Exercise or Fitness G.A.


POSITION BASICS:

Hourly Rate/Range:$14.50 - $20.00

WORK SCHEDULE:

Hours:6-20 hours/week

Shift:Shift times vary between 6 am - 9 pm

Work Week:May work weekends

Additional Hours:As needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Knowledge and understanding of fitness principles and their application to the group setting.
  • Must be in excellent physical condition to teach classes.
  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed.
  • Outstanding customer service skills; must have excellent written and oral communication.
  • Must be well-organized and prepared to teach classes; ability to interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to fill in as a substitute instructor, accommodating to a schedule that may include early mornings, late evening and weekends.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
